The effects of cathode channel side blockage on enhanced performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Flow field configuration has a great influence on the mass transfer and performance of PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell). Both sides blockages arranged in the cathode flow channel is proposed for performance improving of PEMFC.In this paper, blockage models with three shapes and three lateral placement methods are designed to study the influence of blockage on mass transfer and performance. First, a 3D PEMFC model with a middle channel was built to calculate the battery power at different discharge rates. Secondly, a preliminary three-dimensional model of the blockage of the cathode flow channel of the battery was established, and the simulation analysis was carried out through the Fluent fluid analysis software, and the influence of the shape and arrangement of the blockage on the mass transfer was studied, and an optimization analysis was carried out.
