This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) presents reference information for use in preparing detailed specifications and other documents. The intent is to have a master reference document containing frequently required tabulations of information, such as the meaning of abbreviations, the spelled out wording of acronyms, the definition of terms, etc. so that such tabulations need not be repeated in recommended practice documents describing how to prepare technical documents. This document is intended to provide references in the field of fluid system components for space applications. Space applications include spacecraft, such as satellites, space stations, launch vehicles and space shuttles, and servicing equipment and components used for ground systems and launching and for servicing in space. Fluid system components include couplings, fittings, hose and tubing assemblies.

HISTORICAL
AS7510A
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the requirements for a threadless, flexible, high conductive, self-bonding coupling assembly which, when installed on defined ferrules, provides a flexible connection for joining ducting and components in pressurized fluid systems. The assembled coupling is designed to provide interchangeability of parts and components between qualified manufacturers for use from -65 to +265 °F at 130 psi nominal operating pressures and for the service life of the aircraft system. FAR 23.954, FAR 25.603, FAR 25.605, FAR 25.609, FAR 25.613, FAR 25.901, FAR 25.954, and FAR 25.981 certification requirements have identified the need for high current capable flexible fluid assembled couplings. The coupling assembly does not require inspection or maintenance to remain current capable for the life of the aircraft.

AS1650F
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the requirements for a threadless, flexible, self-bonding coupling assembly which, when installed on machined fixed-cavity ferrules, provides a flexible connection for joining tubing and components in aircraft fuel, vent, or other systems. This assembled coupling, hereafter referred to as the assembly, is designed for use from -65 to +400 °F and at 125 psig nominal operating pressure. AS1650 was not designed for the new certification requirements for flammable leakage zones and fuel tanks for lightning protection and assembly redundancy. As such, their use and installation may require additional efforts and equipment to support new FAA CFR compliance. The AS7510 flexible coupling should be the preferred coupling for use in flammable leakage zones and fuel tanks that require service life and functionality for lightning protection and part redundancy.

AS5830A
This aerospace specification defines the requirements for a threadless, flexible, conductive, self-bonding coupling assembly which, when installed on fixed cavity ferrules, provides a flexible, current carrying connection for joining tubing and components in aircraft fuel, vent and other systems. The assembled coupling is designed to provide interchangeability of parts and components between qualified manufacturers for the service life of the aircraft system. The assembled coupling is for use from -65 to +200 °F at nominal operating pressures (125 psig for -08 through -64 and 30 psig for -72 through -88). This aerospace specification is a departure from prior qualification practices for assembled couplings. Prior practice sought to validate this type of assembled coupling design by conducting a sequence of tests on sets of coupling assemblies. There were multiple test sequences and each was conducted on a different set of coupling assemblies.

AIR1228A
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) establishes the specifications and descriptions of the critical components and operational guidelines for the standard hydraulic impulse machine for testing hydraulic hose assemblies, tubing, coils, fittings and similar fluid system components. This revision to the AIR1228 provides a description of a system that meets the requirements for specifications including: AS603, AS4265, and ARP1383. This impulse system utilizes closed loop servo control with specifically generated command signal waveforms. Data accuracy and integrity are emphasized in this revision. Knowing the uncertainty of the pressure measurement is important whether using a resonator tube system, as described in the original release of this document, or a closed-loop systems as described in this release. The accuracy of the data measurement system and consistency of the pressure waveform are fundamental to test validity, regardless of the system type.
