Information Report for the Installation of Fluid Conductors and Connectors

2015-02-26
CURRENT
J2593_201502
This information report provides general information for installing and tightening fluid conductors and connectors. Following these guidelines, with the consistent proper use of torque wrenches, tightening procedures and correct torque levels will result in diminishing leaks and improving service life by avoiding hose twisting, tube binding, false torque and improper joint closures. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, this report should not be used as a “standard” nor a “specification” and the values shown should not be construed as “guaranteed” minimums, maximums or absolutes. This document is an information report to help users by gathering available information from the various connector standards and publishing the information in one source for easy retrieval and applied common usage. This information report is primarily intended for mobile/stationary industrial equipment applications.

Connector for Fluid Power and General Use - Ports and Stud End with ASME B1.1 Threads and O-Ring Seal - Part 4: External Hex and Internal Hex Inch Port Plugs - Dimensions, Design, Test Methods and Requirements

2013-02-08
WIP
J1926/4
This part defines performance requirements, dimensions, and designs for -2 through -32 internal and external hex port plugs for use in SAE J1926-1 ports. Testing and usage through many years confirm the performance requirements of port plugs made from carbon steel. The port plugs were specified in SAE J514 without any performance requirements. They have been developed and tested to gain a 4:1 working pressure rating for industrial applications. In fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a fluid (liquid or gas) under pressure within an enclosed circuit. In general applications, a fluid may be conveyed under pressure. Components are connected through their threaded ports by stud ends on fluid conductor fittings to tubes and pipes or to hose fittings and hoses. For threaded ports and stud ends specified in new designs in hydraulic fluid power applications, only ISO 6149 shall be used.

Hydraulic Tube Fittings

2012-01-06
CURRENT
J514_201201
This SAE Standard covers complete general and dimensional specifications for 37 degree flared and flareless types of hydraulic tube fittings and O-ring plugs. Also included are pipe fittings and adapter unions for use in conjunction with these tube fittings. These fittings are intended for general application in hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. These fittings are capable of providing leakproof, full flow connections in hydraulic systems operating at working pressures as specified in Table 1 for respective sections. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, the values shown in SAE J1065 should not be construed as a guaranteed minimum. For any application, it is recommended that sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and fitting manufacturer to assure that performance levels will be safe and satisfactory.

J514/1
The September 2006 edition of SAE J514 was a single document specifying the requirements for 37° flare adapters with J1926-3 stud ends and NPTF Pipe ends, Flareless Bite Type Adapters, internal and external hex plugs, NPTF pipe adapters, and Adapter Unions. In XXXXX 2005, ISO 8434-2 was published covering the requirements for 37° Flare adapters with ISO 6149-3, ISO 1179-3, ISO 11926-3 and ISO 9974-3 stud ends.. This revision of SAE J514 adopts the connectors covered within ISO 8434-2 incorporating the rationalized dimensions from ISO 8434-2 where applicable, for the inch (ISO 11926-3 / SAE J1926-3) stud end 37° connectors, as well as fitting configurations that are not specified in the ISO standard. Formerly, SAE J514 was organized as a single document with 10 clauses, which included 6 sections.
