Formation is a crucial step in the production process of lithium-ion batteries. During formation, a solid electrolyte interface (SEI) forms on the surface of the negative electrode particles that is determinative of the performance of the cells, including their capacity and lifespan. Therefore, optimizing formation protocols and gaining a deeper understanding of SEI film formation are of paramount importance in order to enhancing the performance of lithium-ion batteries. The current focus of optimizing formation protocols lies primarily in temperature, current, and voltage windows, with limited investigation into the effects of different pressures on battery formation. Additionally, the crucial information regarding the expansion stress during the process of formation has been disregarded, while it is directly linked to the formation of the SEI film. This study presents the lithium-ion battery pressure formation equipment equipped with a pressure sensor.
