Metallic Whiskers

2019-10-17
CURRENT
AIR4129A
This AIR presents an abbreviated review of the metallurgical phenomena known as whiskers. It is not all encompassing; rather, it is intended to introduce the design engineer to the technical issues of metallic whiskers, their formation, and the potentially dangerous problems they can cause.

Aluminum Alloy, Extrusions 1.0Mg - 0.60Si - 0.30Cu - 0.20Cr (6061-T6511) Solution Heat Treated, Stress Relieved by Stretching, Straightened, and Precipitation Heat Treated

2019-10-17
CURRENT
AMS4173G
This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of extruded bars, rods, wire, profiles, and tubing. These extrusions have been used typically for parts requiring moderate strength and where distortion during machining must be minimized, but usage is not limited to such applications.

Vehicle Lift Points for Service Garage Lifting

2019-10-16
CURRENT
J2184_201910
This SAE Standard is directed at the proper communication of the lift points on the vehicle frame or underbody to commercial service personnel for the purpose of raising passenger vehicles, light trucks, and vans completely off the shop floor. To this end, vehicle manufacturers are guided in the proper design of a lift point label and lift points located on the body/frame for use by service garages.

Retainers, (Back-Up Rings), Hydraulic and Pneumatic, Polytetrafluoroethylene Resin, Single Turn, Static Gland

2019-10-13
WIP
AS5860C
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers scarf-cut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (back-up rings) for use in static glands in accordance with AS5857. They are for use in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings, packings and other elastomeric seals. Because of the construction of groove dimensions, back-ups specific to rod applications are designated “R” - Rod (Female), back-ups specific to piston applications are designated “P” - Piston (Male). Retainers specified herein have been designed for a temperature range of -65 to 275 °F (-54 to 135 °C) and a nominal operating pressure of 3000 psi (20.7 MPa) for code 09 material and 5000 psi (34.5 MPa) for code 10 material. Material codes are based on AMS3678 material types.

Aerospace-Solenoid Valve, Hydraulic, Three Way, Two Position, Direct Acting

2019-10-10
WIP
ARP4945B
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is intended as a guide to aid in the specifying and testing of direct acting three way, two position, single and multiple coil, normally open and normally closed solenoid valves used for the pilot actuation of hydraulic control systems and the control of hydraulic components. The information presented should be useful in standardizing terminology, in specifying requirements and performance parameters, and in defining test methods. The recommendations do not restrict or attempt to define the internal design features of solenoid valves. Standard mechanical, electrical and fluid porting interfaces are recommended to provide commonalty, interchangeability, design flexibility and to be more affordable. In general, this recommended practice is directed toward solenoid valves for use in military and commercial flight control and hydraulic actuation systems.

Degradation Limits of Hydrocarbon-Based Hydraulic Fluids, MIL-PRF-5606, MIL-PRF-83282, and MIL-PRF-87257 Used in Hydraulic Test Stands

2019-10-10
WIP
AIR810E
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) presents data on normally accepted changes in physical properties and contamination levels for military hydraulic fluids used in hydraulic test stands. This information is of importance to all users of hydraulic test stands to assure the performance data obtained on these test stands for specific components will not be adversely affected by excessive changes in fluid properties or contamination levels. The data pertains to fluids conforming to specifications MIL-PRF-5606, MIL-PRF-83282, and MIL-PRF-87257. The guidelines incorporated in the AIR are the general consensus values of knowledgeable professionals. However, the experience and judgment of engineers and operators responsible for the equipment must be relied upon to determine when the hydraulic fluid is to be replaced.
