Today's marketplace and the increased requirements of material specifications have caused modern steelmakers to improve their current products and develop new ones. In doing so, the processes and products have been optimized with respect to properties, performance, quality, and cost. Several of these processes/products and the benefits they provide are described. Developments/improvements in steelmaking, internal quality, chemistry/hardenability control, machinability, cost effective alloying, and similar areas of interest for both bar and tubular products are included.

A Method for Bearing Damage Analysis

A method for the analysis of a damaged bearing is described. An emphasis is placed on obtaining complete and accurate application information; conducting a thorough visual examination; making physical measurements as necessary; and conducting metallurgical tests. The method has been used for tapered roller bearings as well as a variety of other components of various steel types and processing histories.
