Principled Negotiation

2019-12-12
This highly interactive workshop focuses training on negotiation strategy and skills. This is not the manipulative, win-lose negotiation approach frequently taught today, where the winner eventually spends time and effort protecting his negotiated advantage against erosion, while the loser continually exploits loopholes and shortcuts to recover lost ground. Traditional negotiation is a wary dance based on mistrust, the true cost of which is lost in quality and brain fatigue - usually for someone other than the negotiator - over the life of the agreement.

The Automotive industry is in ever more need for a lesser weight car due to progressively stringent emission norms and the demand of customer to have better mileage. It can be a gargantuan challenge for automotive manufacturers to search for lesser weight material to meet both customers as well as regulatory norms. But in some cases such lower weight material can increase the cost and adding a expensive material which increases overall cost to a price sensitive market like India is not favorable. One such solution is using the indigenous plant fiber (Jute) in combination with propylene (PP) to make Interior plastics components. Jute a vegetable fiber also referred to as "the golden fiber" has high tensile strength, low extensibility and is well established in fabric, packing, agriculture, construction industries. The biodegradable Jute lesser weight & abundance (India is the leading manufacturer of the Jute) can be utilized in making automobile trim parts in India.

2019-28-2443
In a connected vehicle environment, the engine drive cycles operate in synchronized and regulated manner. This requires smooth transitions for improved CO_2 footprint. To arrive at this, there is need for intelligent and faster airpath control at transients. Authors aim to model and control every actuator of a coupled system in a synchronized manner with faster dynamic response. The turbocharger control is vital and forms heart of the system; This demands accurate position prediction of VTG. Deriving a control law for turbocharger is challenging due to the hybridized nature of turbocharger models in engine management system. It becomes extremely critical to estimate accurately, the position of VTG without introduction of any sensing devices. The control engineer always need to solve the trade-off between the controller performance KPI’s – rise time, transient response, controllability, observability and capability – stability and dynamics response etc.

Performance Gains of Load Sensing Brake Force Distribution in Motorcycles

2019-11-21
2019-28-2426
Commercial motorcycles and scooters incorporate independent circuits for front and rear brake actuation, thus precluding load dependent brake force distribution. In all cases of manual brake force modulation between the front and rear wheels, there is poor compensation for the changes in wheel loads on the account of longitudinal weight transfer, thus making it is challenging to provide an adequate braking force to each wheel. The ratio in which the braking force should be distributed between the front and the rear wheels is dependent on the motorcycle geometry, weight distribution, mechanical sizing of braking system components, and is a variable based on the deceleration. This connotes that a fixed value of front and rear braking forces can be optimized for only a narrow range of motorcycle’s deceleration. Maximum braking performance occurs just prior to wheel lockup, as a sliding tire provides less grip than a rolling tire.

Development of Idling Stop System for 125 cm3 Scooters with Fuel Injection

2019-11-21
2019-28-2449
The idling stop system for scooters employs an ACG-starter connected directly to the crankshaft without reduction gears; therefore, it is possible to start the engine silently. The system is designed to stop the engine automatically when the scooter stops, and the engine restarts simply by opening the throttle. Scooters with 50 cm3 engines have already been employing the idling stop system. This system for 125 cm3 engines was developed to enlarge the application range of the idling stop system. It needs a large ACG starter because the cranking torque is higher than that of 50 cm3 engines, so the cranking torque was reduced by using a decompression device. The ACG starter was designed with a thin and large diameter construction in order to minimize the increase in engine width. The new idling stop system was developed with an integrated control of the fuel injection system and the ACG starter.

The seat belt system is one of most imperative component of the safety instrument family in a vehicle. The main purpose of seat belt is to minimize the injuries by preventing the occupant from impacting hard interior parts of the vehicle and also the passenger from being thrown-out from the vehicle in case of rollover accidents. The standard three-point belts, mounted to the vehicle in three places, namely anchor, D ring and buckle. The position of D ring is very important to distribute the impact load evenly to the occupants. Very high load in any of these locations could cause breakage of the mountings and also concentrated loading on the occupant chest of pelvis. This study mainly focuses on the seatbelt assembly performance improvement against ECE-R16 sled test. The sled test was carried out first using 28g peak acceleration pulse and measurement of forces at shoulder and anchor position was measured using the load cell.
