Improved update-over-the-air solution through standardization of ‘software/firmware package format and flash jobs’

This paper investigates and proposes the possibilities of standardizing the software/firmware package format and flash jobs in order to provide the possibility of productizing the update-over-the-air solution regarding on-board vehicle components and make use of it in all OEMs with minimum configuration changes and customization. The update-over-the-air solution in the automotive sector is provided by various suppliers and needs to be customized to meet various OEMs requirements. Possible Variants of OEM requirements are: • Variant 1 o Customer Portal + Backend + vehicle on-board components solution from supplier • Variant 2 o Customer Portal + Backend solution from OEM o Vehicle on-board components from supplier • Variant 3 o Backend from OEM o Customer Portal + vehicle on-board components from supplier ODX, VBF, and many other formats from OEMs include software/firmware packages.

Noise and vibration simulations method for electric hybrid tractor powertrain.

Internal combustion (IC) engines have been serving as prime source of power in tractors, since late 19th Century. Over this period, there have been significant improvements in IC engine technology leading to increased power density, reduction in tailpipe emissions and refinement in powertrain noise of tractors. As the regulations governing tailpipe emissions continue to be more stringent, original equipment manufacturers also have initiated work on innovative approaches such as diesel-electric hybrid powertrains to ensure compliance with new norms. However, introduction of such technologies may impact customer’s auditory, vibratory and drivability perceptions. Absence of conventional IC engine noise, association of electric whistle and whine, torque changes with activation/de-activation of motors and transmission behavior under transient conditions may result in new NVH issues in hybrid electric vehicles.

These systems assist the driver and the driving process, further increasing the car safety and road safety, subsequently reducing human error. Due to interaction of several electronic control units (ECUs) in a vehicle and complexity of the system, electronic stability plays a vital role. Therefore, the standards shall be more performance oriented and technology neutral. They shall also cover validation tests associated with safety, mechanical rigidity, durability, environmental protection and electromagnetic compatibility.

The automobile industry is moving towards electrification of Vehicle to remove the exhaust gas emissions. A project was undertaken to develop Electric Vehicle control system from concept to vehicle trials in less than a year. The complete development cycle of an electronic controller required to be compressed to prepare mule electric vehicle within timeline. Agile methodology has been used for this project instead of waterfall as other control systems were in developing stage; system requirements were changing frequently. This paper presents the electric vehicle control unit development with agile methodology using model based development (MBD) in MATLAB and Simulink environment. The project flow consists of major phases like design of electrical architecture, system requirements specification, selection and setting up the simulation platform, EVCU strategy development, testing on Model in Loop (MIL)/ Hardware in Loop (HIL), vehicle trials.

Honda’s OBD II diagnostic connecting device Honda Connect was used as transceiver for this telematics system which was used as an accessory in Honda vehicles. Data collected with this device with large sample size and regional diversity across India was used in product development for Honda System. Control system development for BSVI vehicles, Idle start stop hardware specificaton selection and Battery electric vehicle target range study was done with Honda Connect Data.

Abstract The electrification of conventional internal combustion engine vehicle is a need of today’s advanced world to reduce the dependency of the transportation sector on the oil and gases. It can be achieved by replacing the engine by an electric motor which is powerful enough to provide required torque. The important requirement for a vehicle to drive in the hilly region with steep corners is proper torque distribution on each wheel which is taken care by the differential system. When the friction between road and wheels are different from left to right, then the wheel with low friction contact will lose its traction on the road. These situations are unfavorable for driving a vehicle on off-road and extrema conditions like driving in muddy roads or on the ice. These problems can be overcome by providing individual power supply system to separate wheels.

A Self-Intelligent Traffic Light Control System based on Traffic Environment using Machine Learning

In this paper, we will detect and track vehicles on a video stream and count those going through a defined line and to ultimately give an idea of what the real-time on street situation is across the road network. Our major objective is to optimize the delay in transit of vehicles in odd hours of the day. It uses YOLO object detection technique to detect objects on each of the video frames And SORT (Simple Online and Realtime Tracking algorithm) to track those objects over different frames. Once the objects are detected and tracked over different frames a simple mathematical calculation is applied to count the intersections between the vehicles previous and current frame positions with a defined line. At present, the traffic control systems in India, lack intelligence and act as an open-loop control system, with no feedback or sensing network. Present technologies use Inductive loops and sensors to detect the number of vehicles passing by.

However due to high voltages and complex power electronics design, it often becomes difficult to deal with EMC related non-compliances. ICAT being largely experienced in the EMC testing and validation of E-buses, would like to present the various EMC challenges and the solutions related to E-buses. In this paper we would share three case studies where the EMC issues related to E-buses were mitigated by either introducing simple changes to the existing design or through large/small modification.

The automotive industries around the globe is undergoing massive transformation towards technological capability to meet stringent legislative norms on fuel economy and emission. It is a challenging process to meet the regulatory standards without compromising on performance. The torque delivered by the engine at wide open throttle position in a transient condition from low idle to higher engine rpm is known as dynamic torque, which always need not to follow the defined FTP curve. The engine dynamic torque plays a crucial part in performance benchmarking of a vehicle as a visualization parameter to set the project targets. There exist a few methodologies to measure the engine brake torque like direct measurement using torque transducer which adds complexity and cost to the vehicle, ECU measured torque based on amount of fuel injection and empirical calculation using known engine speed.

Neural Network based virtual sensor for throttle valve position estimation in a SI Engine

Electronic throttle body (ETB) is commonly employed in an intake manifold of a spark ignition engine to vary the airflow quantity by adjusting the throttle valve in it. The actual position of the throttle valve is measured by means of a dual throttle position sensor (TPS) and the signal is feedback into the control unit for accomplishing the closed loop control in order handle the nonlinearities due to friction, limp-home position, aging, parameter variations. This work aims presents a neural networks based novel virtual sensor for the estimation of throttle valve position in the electronic throttle body. Proposed neural network model estimates the actual throttle position using three inputs such as reference throttle angle, angular error and the motor current. In the present work, the dynamic model of the electronic throttle body is used to calculate the current consumed by the motor for corresponding throttle valve movement.

Aircraft production is facing various technical challenges, such as large product dimensions, complex joining processes and the organization of assembly tasks. Meeting the requirements that come with large dimensions, low tolerances and small batch sizes, in combination with complex joining processes, automation and labour-intensive inspection task, is often difficult to achieve in an economically viable way. ZeMA believes that a semi-automated approach is the most effective for optimizing aircraft section assembly. An effective optimization of aircraft production can be achieved with a semi-automated riveting process for solid rivets using Human-Robot-Collaboration in combination with an intuitive Human-Machine-Interaction operating concept. While using dynamic task sharing between human and robot based on their skills, and considering ergonomics, the determined ideal solution involves placing a robot inside the section barrel.

Analysis of a Coupling System of Aircraft Environmental Control and Fuel Tank Inerting Based on Membrane Separation

This paper raises a coupling system of aircraft environmental control and fuel tank inerting based on membrane separation. The system applies a membrane dehumidifier to replace water vapor removal unit of heat regenerator, condenser and water separator, which is widely used in conventional aircraft environmental control system nowadays. Water vapor can travel across the membrane wall under its pressure difference without phase change, so the dehumidification process consumes no cooling capacity and the cooling capacity of the system increases. This paper first compares the thermodynamic properties of environmental control system based on membrane dehumidification and the environmental control system based on condensation. The results show that the membrane dehumidification system has bigger cooling capacity and lighter weight.

Flight Optimization Model on Global and Interval Ranges for Conceptual Studies of MEA Systems

In development of more electric aircraft applications, it is important to discuss aircraft energy management on various level of aircraft operation. This paper presents a computationally efficient optimization model for evaluating flight efficiency on global and interval flight ranges. The model is described as an optimal control problem with an objective functional subjected to state condition and control input constraints along a flight path range. A flight model consists of aircraft point-mass equations of motion including engine and aerodynamic models. The engine model generates the engine thrust and fuel consumption rate for operation condition and the aerodynamic model generates the drag force and lift force of an aircraft for flight conditions. These models is identified by data taken from a published literature as an example. First, approximate optimization process is performed for climb, cruise, decent and approach as each interval range path.

These days, the automobile industry is in the Mega trend of electronic. Amid this trend, the demand for motorized is also increasing for conventional chassis products. As a result, So-called motorized products require more complex designs and more validation. On the other hand, another issue in the industry is using simulation to front load design decisions. The concept of “Front Loading” is not entirely new conception to automotive manufacturers, who are becoming increasingly adept at eliminating cost, materials, time and waste from the design process. However, front loading is still available in only each unit, and the simulation across the system is immature as ever. In this paper, we would like to show how to implement a more efficient design process by using simulation to front loading for new concept design “Crossed Helical Gear Type - Motor on Caliper”. Also, it contains the simulation techniques and the fundamental methods studied to build this design process.
