Due to the increase in the number of features, the overall weight of power distribution unit increases and thereby affecting the overall system cost and fuel economy. The scope of this document is to scale down the weight and space of the power distribution unit without compromising with the current performance. Methodology Miniaturization involves replacing the mini fuses and J-case fuses with LP mini and LP J-case fuses respectively. The transition doesn’t involve any tooling modification and hence saves the tooling cost.

Thermal Challenges in Automotive Exhaust System through Heat Shield Insulation

While advanced automotive system assemblies contribute greater value to automotive safety, reliability, emission/noise performance and comfort, they are also generating higher temperatures that can reduce the functionality and reliability of thesystem over time. Thermal management and insulation are extremely important and highly demanding in BSVI, RDE and Non-IC engine operating vehicles. Passenger vehicle and Commercial vehicle exhaust systems are facing multiple challenges such as packaging constraints, weight reduction andthermalmanagement requirements.Frugal engineering is mandatory to develop heat shield in the exhaust system with minimum heat loss. The focus of the paper is to design, develop and validate heat shield products with different variables such as design gap, insulation material, sheet metal thickness and manufacturing processes. 1D and 3D computational simulations are performed with different gaps from 3 mm to 14 mm are considered.

Investigation in Bonding Conditions of CF/Epoxy – PP Hybrid Structures Manufactured by Hybrid Single Shot Method

The hybrid single shot method is a novel manufacturing technique which allows to form and bond CF/Epoxy sheet with the injected thermoplastic in a single injection process. This process is promising to overcome the drawbacks of the traditional hybrid structure manufacturing methods by reducing the cycle time, energy consumption, tool, and machinery cost which are the concerns of automakers. In this process, polypropylene (PP) injected over the pre-heated CF/Epoxy prepreg insert. PP is widely used in automotive applications such as bumpers, dashboards, side-sills while CF/Epoxy prepreg has a great potential to enhance the mechanical properties of the hybrid component. Insert material is formed by the pressure of PP and bonded with the thermoplastic part by taking the advantages of polymer heat and the tackiness of prepreg. The final part is promising to combine the inherent properties of these two material while enhancing their weaknesses.

The ground mobile robotics study is structured on the two pivotal members namely Sensor perception and Motion planning. Sensor perception or Exteroception comprises the ability of measurement of the layout of environment relative to vehicle’s frame of reference which is a necessity for the implementation of safe navigation towards the goal destination in an unstructured environment. Environment scanning has played a significant role in mobile robots application to investigate the unexplored environment in the sector of defence while transporting and handling material in warehouse and hospitals. Motion Planning is a conjunction of analysing the sensor’s information about the local frame and global map while being able to plan the route from starting point to the target destination. In this paper, a 3600 2-D LiDAR is used to capture the spatial information of the surrounding, the scanning results are presented in a local and global map.

The need for eco-friendly materials is recently increasing in the automobile and aerospace sectors. Material selection for automobile components is influenced by various factors such as cost, weight and strength. Natural fibers offers various advantages over conventional materials such as environmental friendly, easily available, recyclable and higher specific strength. Among the natural fibers Sisal and Kenaf fibers are selected for present study due to their good mechanical properties and availability. Kenaf fibers have great potential to be used as construction and automotive materials due to their long fibers which are derived from the bast. Sisal fibers do not absorb moisture and posses good impact, sound absorbing properties and high fire resistance properties. Epoxy LY556 is selected as matrix material to bind the combination of these two natural fibers due to its high temperature resistance and adherence to reinforcements.

Experimental Investigation on Mechanical Properties and Vibration Damping Frequency Factor of Kenaf Fibers Reinforced Epoxy Composite

Kenaf fiber regarded as industrial crop for different applications. It is one of the most important plants cultivated for natural fibers globally. Natural fibers such as Kenaf fibers are getting attention of researchers and industries to utilize it in different composites due to its biodegradable nature. In this present investigation mechanical properties, vibration damping frequency factor and thermogravimetric analysis of Kenaf fiber reinforced epoxy composite (KFREC) have been evaluated and reported. The tests were conducted with different weight categories of Kenaf fiber such as 20%, 25%, 30% and 35%. The effects of fiber content on tensile, flexural, impact strengths, hardness and thermal decomposition properties of the composite were determined. The failure mechanism and damage features of the KFREC were categorized using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results indicate that the increase in the fiber content decreases the damping vibration factor (ζ) correspondingly.

In the present study the fabrication of joints between the nickel base alloys and steels of various grades have been under taken, joining of these metals has assumed new importance by virtue of their widespread in nuclear and aerospace applications. Such joints provide excellent strength, oxidation and corrosion resistance. This paper deals with the study of weldability, and mechanical properties of weld joints of two different alloys such as nickel based alloy- monel 400 and austenitic stainless steel AISI 321. The joining of the similar and dissimilar metals is carried out by GTAW process by employing two different types of filler rods such as SS321 and ERNiCrMo-3.

Experimental Investigation Mechanical and Corrosion Characteristics of Friction Stir Welded Aluminum Alloy 7075-T6

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a quite new solid-state joining process. This joining technique is energy efficient, environment friendly, and adaptable. In particular, it can be used to join high-strength Aluminium alloys and other metallic alloys that are difficult to weld by conventional fusion welding. Friction Stir Welding heats metal to the temperature below re crystallization. FSW avoids welding defects like porosity and hot cracking which are frequently in conventional welding techniques due to alloy’s very low re-crystallization temperature and higher heat dissipating nature. This process combining deformation heating and mechanical work to obtain high defect free joints. Aluminum alloy 7075-T6 is generally used in various industrial applications such as automobile, ship building and aerospace due to their light weight, good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance.

In photovoltaic system the efficiency of solar cells is determined in combination with latitude and climate. The electricity generation in photovoltaic cell is more in the morning time than in the afternoon time. This is due to the fact that an increase in solar cell temperature leads to a decrease in efficiency of the solar panel. This work aims to provide necessary cooling to the solar panel for favourable output during noon time. Normally electrical modular vehicles use non-split cell solar panels. In order to increase the efficiency, we are using split cell solar panel as it increases voltage by halving the size of the silicon chips. Thus, halving the cells results in increasing efficiency and lowering the operation temperature. The solar panel should be maintained at a particular temperature by adopting sprinkling of water method in solar panel for hybrid vehicles.

Design Analysis and 3d Printing Of Non-Pneumatic Tyre

The major concern when implementing manoeuvres are acceleration, braking and steering for the safety control which ultimately depends on the road and tire surface friction. To withstand the vertical loads and maintain good traction with contact surface pneumatic tyres with high volume of pressurised air are required. To improve the comfort, handling and grip with low unsprung mass, non-pneumatic tyres are needed which are not reinforced with air pressure. The decreased effect of rolling resistance, added cushioning effect and better cellular shear band design increased the performance level than pneumatic tyres. Here, air is replaced by poly-composite spokes that eliminates the possibility of tyre going flat. This paper mainly discusses the environmental impact and stability issues of conventional pneumatic tyres and also focuses on the various possible design and components of an airless tyre.

Mechanical and Metallurgical analysis of HSLA steel for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding with different shielding gases

The special designed HSLA (High Speed Low Alloy) Steel is most commonly used in Naval Steel Structures and aircraft structures due to its indigenous properties. The aim of this paper is used to investigate the effect of shielding gas in the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process. The sheet plate of size 300mmx150mmx10mm is taken and welded by GTAW process using argon and helium on the shielding gas. DMR 249A plates are welded by GTAW by using helium and argon as shielding gas with a flow rate of 16 L/min, the interpass temperature is 140ᵒ C and the heat input is less than 1.2KJ/min which is maintained to get a balanced phases of α and γ where the impact toughness, Tensile and micro hardness was studied with different shielding gas and the metallurgical properties were analysed in the base metal, heat affected zones and weld zones. The sheets contain 1.9%Ti and 6.2% Ni and the weld beads were studied for both the type of shielding gases.

The maximum power produced by the Engine is utilized in overcoming the Aerodynamic resistance while the remaining has been used to overcome rolling and climbing resistance. Increasing emission and performance demands paves way for advanced technologies to improve fuel efficiency. One such way of increasing the fuel efficiency is to reduce the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle. Buses emerged as the common choice of transport for people in India. By improving the aerodynamic drag of the Buses the diesel consumption of a vehicle can be reduced by nearly about 10% without any upgradation of the existing engine. Though 60 to 70 % of pressure loads act on the frontal surface area of the buses, the most common techniques of reducing the drag in buses includes streamlining of the surfaces, minimizing underbody losses, reduced frontal area, pressure difference between the front & rear area and minimizing of flow separation & wake regions.

Aluminium Alloys 2014 and 6061 are generally used in a wide range of applications such as an automobile, shipbuilding and aerospace due to their high corrosion resistance, lightweight and good mechanical properties. In the present work, aluminium alloys of AA6061 and AA2014 were effectively welded by friction stir welding technique. The mechanical and Corrosion behaviour of the welded joints were investigated at different welding parameters.

Investigation of Metallurgical, Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy X by Keyhole Plasma Arc Welding Process

This research work studies effect of microsegregation, microstructure and tensile strength of the Hastelloy x weldment produced by plasma arc welding (PAW). Weld joint was obtained in the single pass without the addition of filler wire. The significant results obtained in this research work are (i) fine equiaxed dendrite was detected in the weld centre due to lesser heat input (HI) along with the faster solidification attained in PAW (ii) The existence of secondary precipitates in the interdendritic boundary was identified by the scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis (iii) Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS) revealed the Cr and Mo microsegregation in interdendritic boundary of the weld zone (iv) X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the Mo-rich MoNi4 (P) phase and Cr-rich M23C6 phase. The observed tensile result of weldment is inferior to base metal. The development of secondary precipitates in the weld zone affected the tensile properties of the weld joint.

Investigation on microstructure and mechanical properties of corrosion resistance alloy C-2000 fabricated by conventional arc welding technique

In the current work the metallurgical and tensile properties of the weld joints of alloy C-2000 were investigated. Welding technique employed in this study is Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG) and Pulsed Current Tungsten Inert Gas (PC-TIG) welding with autogenous mode and Ni-Cr-Mo rich ERNiCrMo-10 filler wire. The results show that PC-TIG weldment obtained the refined microstructure compared to the TIG weldment. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) showed the extent of Cr segregation was observed in all the weldments. PC-TIG welding shows reduced segregation compared to the corresponding TIG. X-ray diffraction (XRD) corroborated the existence of Ni3Cr2 phases in the weld fusion zone. Tensile test results show the PC-TIG weldment obtained marginally higher tensile properties comparing over the corresponding TIG weldment. The strength of the weldments is inferior in all cases in comparison to base metal.
