The steering system does function to control the traveling direction of the vehicle by the driver. However, in the case of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles in which the driver does not hold the steering wheel, if the noise that is a precursor to an accident is ignored, it may cause a serious accident due to the loss of the steering system function, so it is necessary to develop a device that notifies the steering system failure in advance. Therefore, in this study, to quantify the level of noise generated in the Column-based electric power steering system of the D-segment sedan, the acceleration of nine noise-generating areas was measured, and at the same time, three steering controller area network (CAN) data were collected. The result is as follows. A meaningful convolutional neural network (CNN) machine learning model could be developed by analyzing the correlation of steering noise acceleration based on CAN data.
