Gas Nitriding of Low-Alloy Steel Parts

2022-12-12
WIP
AMECAMS2759/6
This document specifies the procedure and requirements for gas nitriding low-alloy and tool steels by the use of raw or dissociated ammonia. Additional alloys and steel families (e.g., stainless steels) can also be nitrided using parameters acceptable to the cognizant engineering organization.
Standard

Gaseous Nitrocarburizing

2022-10-24
WIP
AMECAMS2759/12
This specification covers the engineering requirements for producing a continuous thin epsilon-iron-carbonitride compound layer on parts by means of a gaseous, low temperature carbon enriched nitriding process. The process is intended to utilize an atmosphere of high nitriding potential that produces a compound layer. If the compound layer is intended to be controlled automatically, AMS2759/12 shall be used.

Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief (Baking) of Steel Parts

2022-10-03
WIP
AMECAMS2759/9
This specification covers the requirements for embrittlement relief (baking) of heat treated steel parts to remove hydrogen infused during plating and certain other chemical processing such as stripping, chemical milling, pickling, and etching.
Standard

Stress Relief of Steel Parts

2022-09-22
WIP
AMECAMS2759/11
This specification, in conjunction with the general requirements for steel heat treatment in AMS2759, establishes requirements for thermal stress relief treatments of parts manufactured from the following materials:

Pyrometer for Nonmetallic Processing

2022-02-02
WIP
AMECAMS2750/1
This specification, in conjunction with AMS2750, covers pyrometric requirements for equipment used for the thermal processing of nonmetallic products. Specifically, it covers temperature sensors, instrumentation, thermal processing equipment, correction factors and instrument offsets, system accuracy tests, and temperature uniformity surveys. These are necessary to ensure that products are cured or formed in accordance with the applicable specification(s). This specification also covers pressure or vacuum requirements for thermal processing equipment.

Heat Up Time

2012-05-09
CURRENT
AIR4279A
An analysis was made of the effects of various surface conditions on the heat up time of steel bars which are heated in atmosphere furnaces to the temperature range used for steel hardening or normalizing. The purpose was to examine whether a standard heating time for a given section thickness is acceptable.

Influence of Grain Flow on Bolt Integrity

2012-05-09
CURRENT
AIR5065A
Performed tensile and fatigue tests on bolts to determine if cutting of materials flow lines at the bolt underhead would degrade bolt integrity. Five different alloys used in aerospace industry fatigue critical applications were employed to fabricate 5/16 to 1/2 inch diameter bolts. These bolts were machined from bar stock producing fully cut material flow lines under their heads. Tensile testing with and without underhead washers was performed along with industry standard fatigue testing.
