Sound Measurement - Construction Site

2021-07-15
CURRENT
J1075_202107
This SAE Standard sets forth measurement procedures and instrumentation to be used for determining a “representative” sound level during a representative time period at selected measurement locations on a construction site boundary. The document is not intended for use in determining occupational hearing damage risk. Determination of a representative time period is left to the judgment of the user.

J1029
This SAE Standard establishes minimum requirements for lighting and marking earthmoving construction machinery as defined in SAE J1116, 1.1 Self-Propelled Construction Machines - Earthmoving (excluding excavators). (Construction machinery is normally operated off-highway, and therefore this SAE document is not intended to be used as a basis for regulations by those having authority over on-highway motor vehicles.)

Sound Measurement—Off-Road Self-Propelled Work Machines Operator-Work Cycle

2021-03-22
CURRENT
J1166_202103
This SAE Standard sets forth the procedures to be used in measuring sound levels and determining the time weighted sound level at the operator's station(s) of specified off-road self-propelled work machines. This document applies to the following work machines which have operator stations as specified in SAE J1116: • Crawler Loader • Grader • Log Skidder • Wheel Loader • Crawler Tractor with Dozer • Pipelayer • Dumper • Wheel Tractor with Dozer • Trencher • Tractor Scraper • Backhoe • Sweeper • Roller/Compactor • Hydraulic Excavator • Pad Foot Wheel Compactor with Dozer • Excavator and Wheel Feller-Buncher The instrumentation requirements and specific work cycles for these machines are described. The method used to calculate the time weighted average sound level at the operator station(s) is specified for Leq(5), or optional exchange rates, during continuous operation in a work cycle representing continuous medium to heavy work.

Sound Measurement - Off-Road Work Machines - Operator - Singular Type

2013-07-24
CURRENT
J919_201307
This SAE Standard sets forth the instrumentation and procedure to be used in measuring sound pressure levels at the operator position for self-propelled off-road work machines as defined in SAE J1116. This document does not address the operation of safety devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories. This SAE document is applicable to machines that have operator stations where the operator can either stand or sit and will be either transported by, or walk with the machine during its operation. The sound levels obtained using this procedure are repeatable and representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions. Due to variability of field operating conditions, this data is not intended to be used for operator noise exposure evaluations.

Sound Power Level Measurements of Work Machines - Static and In-Place Dynamic Methods

2013-06-20
CURRENT
J1805_201306
This SAE Standard is used to determine the exterior A-weighted equivalent sound power level of static and in-place dynamic machines (dozer, loader, excavator, and backhoe) similar to the sound power obtained in ISO 6393 static and ISO 6395 dynamic sound power test procedures. Additional machine types, specifically sweepers and scrubbers, covered by SAE J2130 have been added, and other work machine types covered by SAE J1116 may be added with appropriate cycle descriptions and machine preparation. The recommended test procedures include conventional integrating sound pressure level methods or the sound intensity method using paired microphones. The sound intensity methodology provides a practical indoor alternative and permits measurement in the factory environment. The procedures in this document assume that the dominant sources are not highly sensitive to load (i.e., cooling fan, engine, track system).

J88_201306
This SAE Standard sets forth the instrumentation and procedure to be used in measuring the exterior sound pressure levels for self-propelled off-road work machines as defined in sections 1, 3, 5 and 6 of SAE J1116. This document does not address the operation of safety devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories. The sound levels obtained by using the test procedures set forth in this document are repeatable and are representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions. Due to the variability of field operating conditions, this data is not intended to be used for construction site boundary noise evaluations.
