Energy Dissipation Characteristics Analysis of Automotive Vibration PID Control Based on Adaptive Differential Evolution Algorithm

To address the issue of PID control for automotive vibration, this paper supplements and develops the evaluation of automotive vibration characteristics, and proposes a vibration response quantity for evaluating the energy dissipation characteristics of automotive vibration. A two-degree-of-freedom single wheel model for automotive vibration control is established, and the conventional vibration response variables for ride comfort evaluation and the energy consumption vibration response variables for energy dissipation characteristics evaluation are determined. This paper uses the Adaptive Differential Evolution (ADE) algorithm to tune the PID control parameters and introduces an adaptive mutation factor to improve the algorithm's adaptability. Several commonly used adaptive mutation factors are summarized in this paper, and their effects on algorithm improvement are compared.

Modeling and Validation of the Tire Friction on Wet Road

In order to study the tire friction characteristics under wet skid surface, the “pseudo” hydrodynamic pressure bearing effect is used to be equivalent to the hydrodynamics of water film, and an advanced Lugre tire hydroplaning dynamic model is developed by combining the arbitrary pressure distribution function. The water hydroplaning dynamic tests were carried out for 285/70R19.5 tire under wet of different water film thickness and dry conditions, and the parameters of the advanced Lugre tire dynamic model were identified. The results show that the tire water-skiing model proposed in this paper can effectively simulate the friction characteristics of tires under different water film thicknesses. Under dry conditions, 0.5mm water film and 1mm water film road conditions, the relative errors of the maximum tire friction coefficient between the tested and advanced Lugre tire model are 1.11%, 0.12% and 0.16%, respectively.

Study on Aircraft Wing Collision Avoidance through Vision-Based Trajectory Prediction

When the aircraft towing operations are carried out in narrow areas such as the hangars or parking aprons, it has a high safety risk for aircraft that the wingtips may collide with the surrounding aircraft or the airport facility. A real-time trajectory prediction method for the towbarless aircraft taxiing system (TLATS) is proposed to evaluate the collision risk based on image recognition. The Yolov7 module is utilized to detect objects and extract the corresponding features. By obtaining information about the configuration of the airplane wing and obstacles in a narrow region, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) encoder-decoder model is utilized to predict future motion trends. In addition, a video dataset containing the motions of various airplane wings in real traction scenarios is constructed for training and testing.

Studies of Tire Frictional Characteristics on the Snowy Road

The tire frictional characteristics, which are the most critical factors of braking performance, depend on the road condition. Unsafe accidents always occur when driving in a hostile environment, especially under snowy road conditions. The coupled dynamic behaviors between the tire and the snow on the road are closely related to the water film generated from the tire rolling on the snow. The winter tire and summer tire with specification 175/65R14 are modeled separately by the finite element method (FEM), and the stiffness characteristics of the winter tire are analyzed. Further, the coupled dynamic model between the tire and the snowy road is built by considering the tire motion effects of the water film. The tires’ friction coefficient is investigated under the straight snowy road with different velocities.

Collision Avoidance Study for Towbarless Aircraft Taxiing Systems on the Airport Apron Considering the Measuring Uncertainty

The towbarless aircraft taxiing system (TLATS) consists of the towbarless towing vehicle (TLTV) and the aircraft. The tractor realizes the towing work by fixing the nose wheel. During the towing process, the tractor driver may cause the aircraft to collide with an obstacle because of the blind spot of vision leading to the accident. The special characteristics of aircraft do not allow us to modify the structure of the aircraft to achieve collision avoidance. In this paper, three degrees of freedom (DOE) kinematic model of the tractor system is established for each of the two cases of pushing and pulling the aircraft, and the relationship between the coordinates of each danger point and the relatively articulated angle of the TLATS and the velocity of the midpoint of the rear axle is derived.

Studies on Dynamic Stiffness and Damping of the Vibration Energy Recovery System

The vehicle suspension plays a significant role in alleviating the vibrations translated from the rough road and most of the vibrations are dissipated by the hydraulic shock absorber. Vibration energy harvesting technology is widely concerned for the self-powered wireless sensor system in intelligent vehicle. However, the system dynamic characteristics are influenced by the Ampere force which induced by the electro-magnetic induction of the vibration energy recovery system. Considering the mechanical electromagnetic coupling, a dynamic model of a quarter vehicle with vibration energy recovery system is established. The additional dynamic stiffness and normalized damping characteristics of the electromagnetic system are investigated by applying the harmonic displacement excitations with different frequencies.

Optimal Chassis Suspension Design for Towbarless Towing Vehicle for Aircraft Taxiing

The towbarless aircraft taxiing system (TLATS) consists of the towbarless towing vehicle (TLTV) and the aircraft, of which the nose wheel is lifted and fixed by the picking up and holding system of the TLTV. The aircraft is towed to the destination in a long distance with a high speed of about 40 km/h only driven by the TLTV, which has the advantages of efficiency and economy by comparing with the traditional towing operation at a low speed of 5 km/h and with a short towing distance of about 50 m. However, the increase of the towing velocity leads to an deteriorate vibration problem in terms of the uncomfortable of the driver and reduction of the structure safe life limit, due to the lack of the chassis suspension for the vibration isolation of the TLTV. Therefore, the air suspension is introduced to the TLTV to alleviate the vibration. The dynamic model of the TLATS with air suspensions is derived.

Experimental Study on Drivability of Passenger Car with DCT Based on the Data-Driven Objective Evaluation Model

In order to improve the drivability of passenger cars with dual clutch transmission (DCT) and reveal the criteria for objective evaluation criteria and characteristic index and feature index division of vehicles under specific working conditions, a drivability evaluation system that integrates data-driven and the consistency between subjective and objective is proposed. At first, combined with the control principle and dynamics theory of specific working conditions, a quantitative index system of vehicle drivability is constructed, including three modules: data source, evaluation working conditions and objective indicators. Then, a novel intelligent drivability objective evaluation tools (I-DOET) is designed, including data acquisition, de-noising, working condition recognition, feature extraction and automatic scoring.

Evaluation Index System and Empire Analysis of Drivability for Passenger Car Powertrain

In order to improve the driving experience of drivers and the efficiency of vehicle development, a method of objective drivability for passenger car powertrain is proposed, which is based on prior knowledge, principal component analysis (PCA) and SMART principle. First, drivability parameters of powertrain for passenger cars are determined according to working principle of powertrain, including engine torque, engine speed, gearbox position, accelerate pedal, brake pedal, steering wheel angle, longitudinal acceleration and lateral acceleration, etc. The drivability quantitative index system is designed based on field test data, prior knowledge and SMART principles. Then, D-S evidence theory and sliding window method are applied to identify objective drivability evaluation conditions of powertrain for passenger cars, including static gearshift conditions, starting conditions, creep conditions, tip-in, tip out, upshift conditions, acceleration, downshift conditions and de-acceleration.

The Structural Design and Experimental Study of Integrated Stability Control for Distributed Driven Electric Vehicle

Due to the individual controllability of each motor, the distributed driven electric vehicle has provided a broad research domain for vehicle integrated control. This paper focuses on vehicle stability control by the integration of three systems, the hydraulic brake unit, active steering unit, and motor torque control unit. Firstly, the hierarchical control strategy has been designed generally, which is divided into three levels, the upper controller, medium controller, and lower controller. Secondly, based on the hierarchical structure, each controller has been introduced in detail. The upper controller is the application layer, which has implemented the functions such as the estimations of vehicle states and road conditions, calculation of nominal control variables, identification of vehicle stability and steering characteristics, and the coordinated algorithm of additional yaw moment and active front angle, etc.

Research on Objective Drivability Evaluation with Multi-Source Information Fusion for Passenger Car

The drivability plays an important role for marketability and competitiveness of passenger car in meeting some customer requirements, which directly affects the driving experience and the desire of purchasing. In this paper, a framework of objective drivability evaluation with multi-source information fusion for passenger car is proposed. At first, according to vehicle powertrain system and optimization theory, certain vehicle performances, which are closely related to objective drivability are analyzed, including vehicle longitudinal acceleration, vehicle speed, engine torque, engine speed, gear position, accelerator pedal, brake signal and voltage signal. Then, combined with the evaluation criterion of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), mean error (ME), root mean squared error (RMSE) and signal smoothness (SS), a de-noising method is developed for the drivability evaluation information.

A Novel Velocity Planner for Autonomous Vehicle Considering Human Driver’s Habits

In automatic driving application, the velocity planner can be considered as a key factor to ensure the safety and comfort. One of the most important tasks of the velocity planner is to simulate the velocity characteristics of human drivers. In this paper, two Driver In-the-Loop (DIL) experiments are designed to explain velocity characteristics of human drivers. In the first experiment, static obstacles are placed on both sides of the straight road to shorten the cross range that vehicles can driver across. Moreover, different cross ranges are set to study the influence of the steering wheel error. In the second experiment, velocity characteristics are investigated under the condition of different road widths and curvatures in a U-turn road contour. In both tests, different drivers’ preview behavior is analyzed through the operation of throttle, braking, and steering.

A Comparative Study on ESC Drive and Brake Control Based on Hierarchical Structure for Four-Wheel Hub-Motor-Driven Vehicle

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is an important measure to proactively guarantee vehicle safety. In this paper, the method of four-wheel hub-motor torque control is compared with the traditional single-wheel hydraulic brake control in ESC system. The control strategy adopts the hierarchical structure. In upper controller, the stability of the vehicle is identified by threshold method, the additional yaw moment control uses a way to get the moment including feedforward and feedback parts based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR). The medium controller is tire slip rate control, in order to get the optimal target slip rate from the upper additional yaw moment, a method of quadratic programming to optimize the longitudinal force is proposed for each wheel. The inputs of tire state for the magic tire model is introduced so as to calculate the target slip rate from the target longitudinal force.

Effect of Circumferential Magnetic Field on Braking Performance of a Direct Vane Magnetorheological Fluid Retarder

The hydraulic retarder used in commercial vehicles can provide hydraulic damping to generate braking torque, reducing the pressure of the braking system on the slope section and increasing the safety. In this paper, the magnetorheological fluid with fast magnetic field reflection characteristics is used to increase the response speed of the hydraulic retarder, which can effectively reduce the response time of the hydraulic retarder. In this paper, the influence of the change of circumferential magnetic field on the braking torque of the magnetorheological fluid retarder is studied.

Differential Speed Steering Control for Four-Wheel Distributed Electric Vehicle

In order to perform differential control instead of the mechanical differential and improve the steering performance of distributed electric vehicles, a two-level differential speed steering control strategy is proposed. Firstly, an upper-layer controller to track the yaw rate is designed based on PID feedback and 3-D lookup table model, which could shorten the response time and reduce the impact of model parameters mismatch. Then, in order to improve the robustness to external disturbances and parameter uncertainties, a lower-layer controller to track the wheel speed is proposed based on integral sliding mode control. Moreover, three simulations are conducted to validate the proposed strategy. The first simulation results indicate that the driving torques of the inner and outer wheels are distributed properly to avoid wheel slip. In the second simulation, when the conventional steering system fails, the proposed control strategy could avoid vehicle losing steering function.

Development of Parametrically Integrated Software Platform for Passenger Car Brake System

The hydraulic servo brake system for passenger car plays a central role in occupant protection, which directly affects the automotive active safety and road handling. In this paper, an integrated parameterized software platform of hydraulic servo brake systems is proposed to realize fast and efficient braking system development. At first, according to the structure and working principle of the hydraulic servo brake system, the relationship among amount of fluid required for brake caliper, pedal feel and performance of the brake system is analyzed. Then, based on kinematics and dynamics of the hydraulic servo brake system, a simulation model for analyze pedal feel and amount of fluid required for brake caliper is built in AMESim, which is composed of brake pedal, vacuum booster, brake master cylinder, brake hoses and brake calipers, etc.

Simulation Research of a Hydraulic Interconnected Suspension Based on a Hydraulic Energy Regenerative Shock Absorber

The current paper proposes a hydraulic interconnected suspension system (HIS) based on a hydraulic energy-regenerative shock absorber (HESA) comparatively with the passive suspensions. The structure and working principles of the HIS system are introduced in order to investigate the damping performance and energy regeneration characteristics of the proposed system. Then, the dynamic characteristics of the HIS-HESA system have been investigated based on a 4-DOF longitudinal half vehicle model. In the simulation, two different road inputs were used in the dynamic characterization of the HIS-HESA; the warp sinusoidal excitation, and the random road signal. In addition, a comparative analysis was provided for the dynamic responses of the half vehicle model for both the HIS-HESA and the conventional suspension. Furthermore, a parametric analysis of the HIS-HESA has been carried out highlining the key parameters that have a remarkable effect on the HIS-HESA performance.

Research on Regenerative Braking Control Strategy of Distributed EV based on Braking Intention

Focusing on distributed electric vehicles with in-wheel motors, a novel regenerative braking control strategy based on braking intention is proposed. Firstly, a design scheme for the regenerative braking system is described. Four in-wheel motors and an Electro-Hydraulic Braking (EHB) system are respectively designed for regenerative braking and hydraulic braking. Then, Braking intention recognition self-learning libraries are trained based on Hidden Markov Model method, which is validated by driver-in-loop tests. According to three speed states and four braking intentions, the regenerative braking control strategy for multiple brake modes is developed. The coefficient of regenerative braking is defined to describe the intervening time and proportion of motor maximum regenerative braking.

Dynamic Modeling and State Estimation for Multi-In-Wheel-Motor-Driven Intelligent Vehicle

Dynamic modeling and state estimation are significant in the trajectory tracking and stability control of the intelligent vehicle. In order to meet the requirement of the stability control of the eight-in-wheel-motor-driven intelligent vehicle, a full vehicle dynamics model with 12 degrees of freedom, including the longitudinal, lateral, yaw and roll motion of the body, and rotational motion of 8 wheels, is established for the research of the intelligent vehicle in this paper. By simulation with MATLAB/SIMULINK and by comparison with the TruckSim software, the reliability and practicality of the dynamics model are verified. Based on the established dynamics model, an extended Kalman filter (EKF) state observer is proposed to estimate the vehicle sideslip angle, roll angle and yaw rate, which are the key parameters to the stability control of the intelligent vehicle.

Study on the Effects of Magnetic Field on Magnetorheological Fluid Hydraulic Retarder Braking Torque

In order to ensure driving safety, heavy vehicles are often equipped with hydraulic retarder, which provides sustained, stable braking torque and converts the vehicle kinetic energy into heat taken away by the cooling system when traveling on a long downhill. The conventional hydraulic retarder braking torque is modulated by adjusting the liquid filling rate, which leads to slow response and difficult control. In this paper, a new kind of magnetorheological (MR) fluid hydraulic retarder is designed by replacing the traditional transmission oil with MR fluid and arranging the excitation coils outside the working chamber. The braking torque can be controlled by the fluid viscosity of MR fluid with the variation of magnetic field. Compared with the traditional hydraulic retarder, the system has the advantages of fast response, easy control and high adjustment sensitivity.
