Injection Technologies and Mixture Formation Strategies For Spark-Ignition and Dual-Fuel Engines

2022-06-24
Fuel injection systems and performance is fundamental to combustion engine performance in terms of power, noise, efficiency, and exhaust emissions. There is a move toward electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce carbon emissions, but this is unlikely to be a rapid transition, in part due to EV batteries: their size, cost, longevity, and charging capabilities as well as the scarcity of materials to produce them. Until these issues are resolved, refining the spark-ignited engine is necessary to address both sustainability and demand for affordable and reliable mobility. Even under policies oriented to smart sustainable mobility, spark-ignited engines remain strategic, because they can be applied to hybridized EVs or can be fueled with gasoline blended with bioethanol or bio-butanol to drastically reduce particulate matter emissions of direct injection engines in addition to lower CO2 emissions.

Motorcycle Accident Reconstruction, 2E

2022-01-07
Accident reconstruction utilizes principles of physics and empirical data to analyze the physical, electronic, video, audio, and testimonial evidence from a crash, to determine how and why the crash occurred, how the crash could have been avoided, or to determine whose description of the crash is most accurate. This process draws together aspects of mathematics, physics, engineering, materials science, human factors, and psychology, and combines analytical models with empirical test data. Different types of crashes produce different types of evidence and call for different analysis methods. Still, the basic philosophical approach of the reconstructionist is the same from crash type to crash type, as are the physical principles that are brought to bear on the analysis.

Automobile Wheel Alignment and Wheel Balancing

2021-12-22
With over thirty years of experience in the design, development, and patenting of some products in the field of wheel alignment, the author shares his knowledge on the importance of wheel maintenance to the overall performance of a vehicle. From the ancient bullock carts to chariots to automobiles, wheels have undergone many changes to serve the purpose of mankind's mobility. Mobility is inevitable in today's life. A world without wheels is unimaginable. Every vehicle owner expects his tires to last longer and perform better. But improper wheel alignment and wheel balancing can drastically impact the wear and tear on a tire. This book walks the readers through the basics to techniques for wheel alignment on light vehicles, commercial vehicles, and trailers. In addition, illustrations present various types of tire wear and the cause of each. Finally, the author delves into tire safety from understanding how air pressure effects a tire to the importance of tire rotation.

Introduction to Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of Aircraft, Engines and Components

2020-12-29
Introduction to Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of Aircraft, Engines and Components brings together the basic aspects of a fundamentally important part of the aerospace industry, the one that supports the global technical efforts to keep passenger and cargo planes flying reliably and safely. Over time, aircraft components and structural parts are subject to environmental effects, such as corrosion and other types of material deterioration, wear and fatigue. Such parts could fail in service and affect the safe operation of the aircraft if the degradation were not detected and addressed in time. Regular planned maintenance supports the current and future value of the aircraft by minimizing the physical decline of the aircraft and engines throughout its life. Introduction to Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of Aircraft, Engines and Components was written by the industry veteran, Shevantha K.

Model Archiving and Sustainment for Aerospace Design

2020-08-05
Model Archiving and Sustainment for Aerospace Design, written by Sean Barker, an industry veteran from the UK, focuses on the techniques developed by the LOTAR (Long Term Archiving and Retrieval) project, a collaboration among the major US and European aerospace companies. Long-term archiving models follows LOTAR by taking the exchange of mechanical CAD fi le as the paradigm for long-term retention and developing general principles for model archiving. These include electrical systems, composite parts, systems engineering and requirementsengineering. The increasing availability of model-based software has made the problems of long-term model sustainment more visible and pressing for a solution. Industries following LOTAR today include aerospace, automotive, nuclear and ship building. In the aerospace sector, the challenges are even bigger.
