Aerospace Glossary for Human Factors Engineers

2020-09-16
WIP
ARP4107A
This Glossary is designed to serve persons who need to know the accepted meanings, within specific contexts, of the terminology used in reports, articles, regulations, and other materials dealing with aviation safety - with particular reference to terms specific to human factors in aviation safety. It is assumed that some users of the Glossary will be familiar with the nomenclature of aviation, but will need information on the language of human factors in engineering as they apply to aviation safety. Others (for example, engineers and psychologists) will have fairly extensive knowledge of the terminology of their own and related disciplines, but will need authoritative definitions of technical terms specific to aviation. Within the foregoing general framework, the following guidelines for the inclusion of terms to be defined have been observed: Aviation terms have been included insofar as they relate to aviation safety.

Test Procedure for Parking Stability of Motorcycles

2020-09-09
CURRENT
J1101_202009
Side stands and center stands are designed to support stationary two-wheel motorcycles. This SAE Standard establishes procedures for determining parking surface loading and stability limits as follows: a The footprint pressure exerted on a horizontal parking surface by the stand. b The tilt angle of the parking surface at which tip-over occurs. c The tilt angle of the parking surface at which roll-off occurs.

Hose Assemblies, Rubber, Hydraulic, Steel Wire Reinforced -Part 2: Ordering Information

2020-09-08
CURRENT
J1754/2_202009
This SAE Standard covers ordering information for steel wire reinforced rubber hose assemblies using connectors specified in SAE Standard J516 or all parts of ISO 12151 for use in hydraulic systems using petroleum based hydraulic fluids with maximum working pressures of 1.7 to 42 MPa. See SAE J1754-2, Table 8 for hose operating temperature ranges and identification codes. NOTE: Working pressure is defined as maximum system pressure.

Test Method for the Determination of Total Acidity in Polyol Ester and Diester Gas Turbine Lubricants by Automatic Potentiometric Titration

2020-09-02
WIP
ARP5088C
The test method describes the procedure for determination of the total acid number of new and degraded polyol ester and diester based gas turbine lubricants by potentiometric titration technique. The method was validated to cover an acidity range 0.05 to 6.0 mg KOH g-1. The method may also be suitable for the determination of acidities outside of this range and for other classes of lubricant.

Evaluation of Coking Propensity of Aviation Lubricants Using the Single Phase Flow Technique

2020-09-02
WIP
ARP5996D
This method is designed to evaluate the coking propensity of synthetic ester-based aviation lubricants under single phase flow conditions found in certain parts of gas turbine engines, for instance in bearing feed tubes. This method is applicable to lubricants with a coking propensity, as determined by this method, falling in the range 0.01 to 5.00 mg.

Front-Wheel-Drive Constant Velocity Joint Boot Seals

2020-09-02
WIP
J2028
This SAE Recommended Practice outlines the qualification testing and performance related criteria of elastomeric boot seals used in constant velocity joint applications. These applications are referred to as front- wheel-drive halfshafts or axles, but can also be utilized in rear-wheel-drive halfshaft applications. For additional information regarding CV joint systems and their applications refer to SAE AE-7 "Universal Joint and Driveshaft Design Manual." The grease type and grease quantities, clamps and clamping mechanisms of an assembly are critical and considered to be the same as OEM, service, or aftermarket designation. Although joint lubricating grease and clamping mechanism are not addressed in this document, they are critical to a total system performance.
