Impact of Acrylic Fiber on the Performance of Newly Developed Friction Materials for Vehicles with Regenerative Braking

Regenerative braking in conjunction with friction braking represents one of the most common braking strategies employed in electric and hybrid vehicles. The considerably different role of the friction brake in these ?blended scenarios?, when compared with braking solely by friction brakes, creates potential for development of new advanced and sustainable brake materials and brake designs. Fiber reinforcements used in friction brake material play an important role in improving strength, stability, and frictional properties [1, 2, 3]. This study concentrated on the development of a new generation of lightweight, ?quiet? and environmentally sustainable brake pad materials to be used with coated cast iron rotors in vehicles with regenerative braking.

Design and Simulation of Braking System for ATV (SAE Paper 2020-01-1611)

Design and Simulation Analysis of Braking system for ATV is carried out with the assistance of Ansys and MATLAB. Heat generated increases the temperature of the disc brake at the rubbing surface resulting in thermal stresses in the components of the braking system. Static, Structural, Thermal, Dynamic, Computational Flow Dynamics, Vibrational & Fatigue Behaviour of Ventilated brake disc Rotor, Hub and Brake Caliper are analysed. Stainless Steel, SS-410 material configuration has been considered for disc brake rotor and results obtained are analysed in terms of performance, longevity and efficiency. Braking efficiency and stopping distance curve are analysed from their characteristics plot. Vibrational Behaviour, Static and Structural Behaviour, Thermal Behaviour, Performance Efficiency, Flow Behaviour of Ventilated Disc Brake Rotor can be easily depicted with respect to Bump and Droop during Acceleration, High Climb and manoeuvrability.

Series BEV with a Small Battery Pack and High-Efficiency ICE Onboard Electricity Production: B-Class, High-Roof Hatchback and Le Mans Hypercar Applications

Data of battery electric vehicles (BEV) with and without a range extender internal combustion engines (ICE) are reviewed and integrated with weight and performance models. A BEV with an on-board, high efficiency, electricity generator based on positive ignition (PI) ICEs is proposed to improve the uptake of the BEV targeting city commuters while improving their economic and environmental impacts. The small ICE, that is working stationary, fixed load and speed, and the generator similarly optimized for a single point operation, permit an efficiency fuel chemical-to-electric of about 49%. This is much better than producing electricity centralized from combustion fuels (average efficiency with included distribution and recharging losses), and it does not require any electric recharging infrastructure. The range of cars can be extended to about the same values of today's car with traditional combustion engines.
