Introduction to Autonomous Trucking and Platooning Technology

2020-04-20
Vehicle automation and intelligent transportation systems will be the cornerstones of sustainable smart cities of the future. People movers seem to be at the heart of technology development, field trials and on-road testing, and strategic business partnerships when it comes to connectivity and automated driving. Majority of the focus has been on unmanned operation and door-to-door service in urban environments and not on highways. Highways are relatively simpler to handle from an engineering stand-point, but vehicles typically operate at higher speeds, so the cost of accidents is worse.

OBJECTIVE Race vehicles are designed to achieve higher lateral acceleration arising at cornering conditions. A focused study on the steady state handling of the car is essential for the analysis of such conditions. The transient response analysis of the car is also equally important to achieve best driver-car relationship and to quantify handling in the range suitable for a racing car. This research aims to investigate the design parameters responsible for the transient characteristics and optimize those design parameters. This research work examines the time-based analysis of the problem to truly capture the non-linear dynamics. Apart from tires, chassis can be tuned to optimize vehicle handling and hence the response times. METHODOLOGY To start with, the system is modelled with governing parameters and simulation is carried out to set baseline configurations. Steady state and transient handling simulations run independent of each other with independent logic, coded on MATLAB.

2019-11-21
2019-28-2475
To control air pollution in urban areas and to reduce carbon print in the cities, nowadays EV’s are preferred over IC engine vehicles. Earlier Electric vehicles used DC motor and Induction motors. But Brushless Permanent Magnet motors are preferred over Induction motor for EV’s due to their High Torque density, high-power density and highly efficiency. Prevalent Electric vehicles today have Brushless DC motors. Compared to BLDC, PMSM motor have smoother control and negligible torque ripplesThus, PMSM motor is preferred over BLDC for Electric Vehicle, because of its sinusoidal back emf which results in smoother control, and results into smoother and more comfortable driving experience to users. Methodology Sensor based field-oriented control (FOC) is implemented in 48 V 5kW Interior PMSM motor. . To start the Synchronous motor initial position of the rotor magnetic field should be known.

Smart Honking Keywords-Safety, Connectivity, GPS M. Priyanka, Mahindra&Mahindra, India Sai Himaja Nadimpalli, Mahindra&Mahindra,India Keywords-Honking , Infotainment , GPS Research and/or Engineering Questions/Objective: In India unnecessary vehicular honking is the main reason for noise pollution. The problem is worst at traffic signals where drivers start honking without waiting for the signal to turn green or for traffic to move. Drivers show no respect to the law that prohibits the use of horn at traffic signals and other silent zones such as areas near hospitals, schools, religious places and residential areas. Vehicular honking in cities has reached at an alarming level and contributes approximately 70% of the noise pollution in our environment. The unwanted sound can affect human health and behavior, causing annoyance, depression, hypertension, stress, hearing loss, memory loss and panic attacks.

HANDLING EXCEPTIONAL SITUATION OF AN AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE

2019-11-21
2019-28-2526
In autonomous vehicle world human safety takes highest priority. And most researchers agree that machines won't be able to completely take over driving duties for years or even decades. "Today's autonomous vehicles can drive relatively well in typical settings, but they fail in exceptional situations - and it's those situations that are the most dangerous," said Walter Lasecki, an assistant professor of computer science and engineering. "Designing autonomous systems that can handle those exceptional situations could take decades, and in the meantime, we're going to need something to fill the gap. Few companies have introduced human safety drivers in autonomous vehicles which has cost advantage compared to traditional ride sharing services. Combining human and artificial intelligence in autonomous vehicles could push driverless cars more quickly toward wide - scale adoption.

A review on influence of different flushing methods on Material Removal Rate using EDM.

2019-11-21
2019-28-2543
Electrical release machining (EDM), is a material removal procedure whereby a coveted shape is acquired by utilizing electrical releases (sparks). Material is expelled from the work piece by a progression of quickly repeating current releases between cathode and anode, isolated by a dielectric fluid and subject to an electric voltage. At the point when the voltage between the two terminals is expanded, the power of the electric field in the volume between the anodes winds up more prominent than the quality of the dielectric (in any event in a few spots), which separates, enabling current to stream between the two cathodes. This wonder is the equivalent as the breakdown of a capacitor (condenser). Accordingly, material is expelled from the cathodes.

2019-11-21
2019-28-2410
Research Objective The importance of evaluating ride comfort with high degrees of accuracy objectively and its correlation with subjective perception is increasing day by day because of the long duration of the driving experience. The complex motion of the vehicle which is the combination of heave, roll and pitch motion is responsible for causing extreme uneasiness to the driver as well as the passenger. In this paper, ride comfort evaluation is done on the highway with similar traffic conditions with the help of Vibration Dose Value Analysis, Suspension Working Space and Ride Diagram methods for two hatchbacks and its correlation with the complex motion like choppiness of the vehicle is established that will help us to enhance the driver ride experience. Methodology The ride testing is performed for two hatchbacks on a highway road with different kinds of terrain ranging from highly uneven road roughness to moderately smooth surface for a speed range of 60-100 kmph.

2019-11-21
2019-28-2428
Ride Comfort forms a core design aspect for suspension and is to be considered as primary requirement for vehicle performance in terms of drivability and uptime of passenger. Maintaining a balance between ride comfort and handling poses a major challenge to finalize the suspension specifications. The objective of this project it to perform ride- comfort analysis for a commercial truck using MATLAB Simulink. First, benchmarking was carried out on a 4x2 commercial truck and the physical parameters were obtained. Further, a mathematical model is developed using MATLAB Simulink R2015a and acceleration- time data is collected. An experimentation was carried out on the truck at speeds of 20 kmph, 30 kmph, 40 kmph and 50 kmph over a single hump to obtain actual acceleration time domain data. The model is then correlated with actual test over a single hump. This is followed by running the vehicle on Class A, B & C road profiles to account for random vibrations.

Methodology for failure simulation Using 4 corner 6 DOF Road load simulator of Overhanging Components: An Experimental Approach

2019-11-21
2019-28-2404
Nowadays, Road Load Simulators are used by automobile companies to reproduce the accurate and multi axial stresses in test parts to simulate the real loading conditions. The road conditions are simulated in lab by measuring the customer usage data by sensors like Wheel Force transducers, accelerometers, displacement sensors and strain gauges on the vehicle body and suspension parts. The acquired data is simulated in lab condition by generating ‘drive file’ using the response of the above mentioned sensors. For generation of proper drive file, not only good FRF but ensuring stability of inverse FRF is also essential. Stability of the inverse FRF depends upon the simulation channels used. In this paper, an experimental approach was applied for focused failure simulation of engine mount, one of such low correlation zone, with known history of failure.

Effect of Tyre inflation Pressure on Rolling Resistance of Tyre

2019-11-21
2019-28-2415
Rolling resistance, is nothing but the rolling drag, is the force resisting the motion when a body rolls on a surface. It is mainly caused by non-elastic effects; that is,not all the energy needed for deformation of the wheel, roadbed, etc. It is recovered when the pressure is removed, in the form of hysteresis losses and permanent deformation of the tyre surface. So, the rolling resistance contributes to the deformation of roadbed as well as tyre surface of the vehicle. Factors contributing in rolling resistance are tyre inflation pressure, wheel diameter, speed, load on wheel,, surface adhesion, sliding, and relative micro-sliding between the surfaces of contact. In this concerned paper we are significantly working on effect of tyre inflation pressure on rolling resistance and taking all other factors constraint.
