Side Impact Occupant Safety and CAE

2020-11-04
Side impact crashes account for approximately twenty-six percent of all motor vehicle fatal crashes, second only to frontal crashes, according to a report by the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA). While car companies and suppliers continue to develop new technologies that make vehicles safer, NHTSA rolled out updated safety regulations (FMVSS 214) based on new research studies, making vehicle safety design more and more complex. This seminar is designed to familiarize participants with the engineering principles behind vehicle and restraint designs for occupant safety.

Success Strategies for Women in Industry and Business

2020-10-19
It is a well-known fact that the number of women in science, engineering and business fields is growing, yet men continue to outnumber women, especially at the upper levels of these professions. Many women appear to encounter a series of challenges at early or midcareer stages that contribute to them leaving their careers prematurely due to feelings of isolation, an unsupportive work environment, extreme work schedules, and unclear rules about advancement and success.

Principled Negotiation

2020-08-13
This highly interactive workshop focuses training on negotiation strategy and skills. This is not the manipulative, win-lose negotiation approach frequently taught today, where the winner eventually spends time and effort protecting his negotiated advantage against erosion, while the loser continually exploits loopholes and shortcuts to recover lost ground. Traditional negotiation is a wary dance based on mistrust, the true cost of which is lost in quality and brain fatigue - usually for someone other than the negotiator - over the life of the agreement.

Engine Failure Investigation and Analysis

2020-07-29
Engine failures can occur in a variety of equipment, vehicles, and applications. On occasion, a single vehicle type or equipment family will even experience multiple engine failures leading to the inevitable need to determine what the most likely cause of one or all of those failures was. This comprehensive seminar introduces participants to the methods and techniques used to understand the types of variables and inputs that can affect engine reliability and then determine the most likely cause of an individual engine or group of engine failures in the field.

Robust Design

2020-07-13
Engineers are taught to create designs that meet customer specifications. When creating these designs, the focus is usually on the nominal values rather than variation. Robustness refers to creating designs that are insensitive to variability in the inputs. Much of the literature on robustness is dedicated to experimental techniques, particularly Taguchi techniques, which advocate using experiments with replications to estimate variation. This course presents mathematical formulas based on derivatives to determine system variation based on input variation and knowledge of the engineering function.

Fundamentals of Gear Design and Application

2020-06-18
Through informative discussions and detailed explanations, this seminar will provide a solid and fundamental understanding of gear geometry, types and arrangements, and design principles. Starting with the basic definitions of gears, conjugate motion, and the Laws of Gearing, those attending will be given the tools needed to understand the inter-relation and coordinated motion operating within gear pairs and multi-gear trains. Basic gear system design process and gear measurement and inspection techniques will also be explained.

Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA)

2020-05-13
Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM+A), pioneered by Boothroyd and Dewhurst, has been used by many companies around the world to develop creative product designs that use optimal manufacturing and assembly processes. Correctly applied, DFM+A analysis leads to significant reductions in production cost, without compromising product time-to-market goals, functionality, quality, serviceability, or other attributes. In this two-day seminar, you will not only learn the Boothroyd Dewhurst Method, you will actually apply it to your own product design!

FAA Part 21 Certification Procedures for Products and Parts

2020-05-11
Part 21 is the FAA regulation that provides the regulatory framework to conduct certification of products and parts. This includes the engineering, airworthiness, production and quality systems. The aerospace industry is hinged around compliance with Part 21; however, comprehension of Part 21 and its role in civil certification is challenging. This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the processes that encompass aircraft certification, including compliance with FARs, certification procedures and post certification responsibilities.

Engineering Management Academy

2020-05-11
View an interview with lead coach Atul Kalia Why a Management Academy? Why should you be interested in this Engineering Management Academy from SAE? The answer to these questions lies in the statistics highlighted by surveys of hiring managers. For example, are you aware that: 28% of internal leadership promotions fail On average, it takes six years before an individual receives any formal training after being promoted to a management position Individual contributors, who are technical experts, are usually natural candidates for promotions to management positions.
