Test Procedure for Air Reservoir Capacity--Truck and Bus

1990-09-01
HISTORICAL
J1911_199009
This SAE Recommended Practice provides instructions and test procedures for air braked vehicles including but not limited to trucks, truck-tractors, trailers, dollies, and buses used on highways but does not include off-highway vehicles. Purpose This document provides a method of determining the air reservoir capacity of highway type vehicles using compressed air to actuate or transmit actuation power to the foundation brakes. Air reservoir capacity is the ability to provide adequate brake pressure after a number of brake applications.

Air Brake Gladhand Service (Control) and Emergency (Supply) Line Couplers--Trucks, Truck-Tractors, and Trailers

1967-11-01
HISTORICAL
J318_196711
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended to provide a design, critical dimensions, performance requirements, and identification for gladhand-type air line couplers used to connect the brake systems of trucks, truck-tractors, and trailers when these vehicles are joined to operate as a combination unit. The purpose is to provide a coupler half for the service (control) and emergency (supply) brake lines on one vehicle that will be identified and compatible with the coupler halves on the service (control) and emergency (supply) brake lines of another vehicle.

Contaminants for Testing Air Brake Components and Auxiliary Pneumatic Devices—Truck and Bus

2018-09-24
WIP
J2024
This SAE Information Report establishes a minimum level of uniform recipes for contaminants which may be used when durability testing pneumatic components to obtain additional information on how a device may perform under more true to-life operating conditions. This type of contamination testing, however, is not meant to replace the type of performance testing described in SAE J1409 and SAE J1410. Durability testing in the presence of contamination, however, will yield results more reflective of actual in-service field conditions and provide an additional evaluation of pneumatic devices. While the contaminant supply rate and other test criteria of the device being tested must be set by the device manufacturer or user, the items covered in this document will be: 1.1 Formula for contaminated oil to be used as a lubricant when testing air compressors. 1.2 Formula for a contaminant to be used when testing pneumatic system components other than air compressors. 1.3 Other contaminants.

Automotive and Off-Highway Air Brake Reservoir Performance and Identification Requirements - Truck and Bus

1985-08-01
HISTORICAL
J10_198508
This SAE Standard applies to all new production air brake reservoirs used in automotive vehicles and off-road machines. This document defines an "air brake reservoir" as a reservoir having single or multiple compartments that is used for storage of compressed air. This document does not apply to accumulators or reservoirs for storage of gases other than compressed air. The reservoirs tested per these requirements shall be selected from production stock and shall be equipped with all permanently attached items such as mounting brackets and fitting bosses.
