Leading High Performance Teams

Product development is organizationally a complex undertaking that requires effective coordination within a company and between companies. During product development, teams are confronted with a number of ongoing organizational challenges and there is a high potential for conflict between participants in the process. This course addresses teamwork and other "soft-side" factors that largely determine whether product development programs are successfully completed on schedule. The content is relevant for both OEMs and suppliers.

DO-178C Basic Training

This seminar is offered in China only and presented in Mandarin Chinese. The course materials are bilingual (English and Chinese). With the development of Chinese civil aviation industry, more and more people realized the importance of airborne software.  During the certification process of previous ARJ21 aircraft, airborne software had captured many concerns.  Nowadays the certification process of C919 aircraft has also reached its peak after its maiden flight.

Advanced Product Quality Planning

APQP is essential to improving the way companies develop products and services. It is a standardized, universally accepted fundamental business strategy. This strategy is applicable to all types of organizations including manufacturing and service companies, schools, hospitals, and governmental agencies. The aim of APQP is to enable the organization to produce products and provide services focused on satisfying customer’s needs, wants, and expectations. Following this standardized approach promotes the integration of design, development and implementation activities with those of suppliers and customers.

Technical Path and Case Analysis of Lightweight Forward Engineering for Vehicle Development and Design

The importance of weight reduction in vehicle design is well known. In recent years, OEMs have been working on vehicle lightweight research and application, particularly for new energy vehicles. Currently, many Chinese OEMs establish a lightweight target and expect that weight savings will be distributed among the vehicle’s various systems.  This tends to keep the weight reduction effort at the level of parts or partial weight loss design development and application.

Design and Evaluation of Automotive Static Perceptual Quality

This seminar is offered in China only and presented in Mandarin Chinese. Static perceptual quality is the term applied to the customer’s first impression of a car at the beginning of the buying process including how it looks, feels, and smells.  This “first feeling” largely determines whether the customer continues through  the purchase process. At present, OEMs have no systematic method for static perceptual quality in the whole vehicle design and development process, especially for the static perceptual quality review in the early stage of design and development before data freezing.

Human Systems Integration and SAE6906

This course introduces Human Systems Integration (HSI) and the new SAE International HSI best practice standard (SAE6906). DoD and other customers currently require HSI program plans in accordance with Department of Defense Data Item Description (DID) DI-HFAC-81743A. It is assumed that, for future system acquisition programs, customers (especially DoD) will require establishment and execution of a Human Systems Integration Program in compliance with SAE Systems Management Standard SAE6906. This course will assist students with planning and executing HSI program that are consistent with the DoD DID and SAE Standard 6906.

Aircraft Virtual Flight Testing and Certification in Off-nominal Multifactorial Situations

The behavior of a 'pilot-automaton-aircraft-operating environment' system (the System) in off-nominal situations with multiple risks can be unpredictably dangerous. Most multifactorial flight scenarios (corner cases) are considered as theoretically improbable. Such anomalies do nonetheless occur in operations and can lead to inconceivable accidents - 'black swan' events.

Theories and Methods of Future HMI Design for Automobiles

HMI design is an Interdisciplinary, which is based on human cognitive psychology and combines humanities, sociology, aesthetics, information science and other disciplines. While automotive technologies can be applied regardless of regions, HMI must be localized, as it is closely related to regional culture, people's living habits and characteristics. At the same time, HMI design has its own complete theoretical system, research and design methods and testing methods, instead of relying on experience. The purpose of this course is to equip people involved in the automotive industry with a basic sense of HMI design of vehicles.

Photography for Accident Reconstruction, Product Liability, and Testing

Many technical projects, most vehicle and component testing, and all accident reconstructions, product failure analyses, and other forensic investigations, require photographic documentation. Roadway evidence disappears, tested or wrecked vehicles are repaired, disassembled, or scrapped, and components can be tested to failure. Photographs are frequently the only evidence that remains of a wreck, or the only records of subjects before or during tests. Making consistently good images during any inspection is a critical part of the evaluation process.

A Primer on Regulations and Liability Considerations for HAV’s

Potential regulations surrounding the development, testing and commercial launch of Highly Automated Vehicles and possible liability exposure for the manufacturing and operation of Highly Automated Vehicles are fluid and changing areas, that will continue to evolve over the next several years. The first half of this course reviews where regulations are at the state and federal levels, what actions are currently under consideration, how current regulations will need to change to accommodate HAV’s, and how and when new regulations might be implemented. The second half covers both common law and strict liability and how it may apply to HAV’s.
