Thermal Containment Efficiency of Sleeve Materials

2008-09-04
HISTORICAL
J2495_200809
This SAE Standard measures the percent thermal efficiency of materials in sleeve form used to contain heat or insulate around a hot component. The percent thermal efficiency (%TE) is determined by measuring the power difference expended by the heat source (cartridge heater) with and without the test sleeve at the specified temperature. See SAE J2302 to measure radiant heat flow of sleeves.

Refrigerant 12 Automotive Air-Conditioning Hose

2015-04-21
CURRENT
J51_201504
This SAE Standard covers reinforced hose, or hose assemblies, intended for conducting liquid and gaseous dichlorodifluoromethane (refrigerant 12) in automotive air-conditioning systems. The hose shall be designed to minimize permeation of refrigerant 12 and contamination of the system and to be serviceable over a temperature range of −30 to 120 °C (−22 to 248 °F). Specific construction details are to be agreed upon between user and supplier.1 NOTE—R12 refrigerant has been placed on a banned substance list due to its ozone depletion characteristics. SAE J51 specification will be phased out as new automotive A/C systems are using R134a. SAE J2064 is the Standard for refrigerant 134a hose. For refrigerant 134a use, refer to SAE J2064.

WROUGHT NICKEL AND NICKEL-RELATED ALLOYS

1976-07-01
HISTORICAL
J470_197607
This Report presents general information on over 50 alloys in which nickel either predominates or is a significant alloying element. It covers primarily wrought materials, and is not necessarily all inclusive. Values given are in most cases average or nominal, and if more precise values are required the producer(s) should be contacted. This report does not cover the so-called "superalloys," or the iron base stainless steels. Refer to SAE J467, Special Purpose Alloys, and SAE J405, Chemical Compositions of SAE Wrought Stainless Steels, respectively, for data on these alloys.

Light Source Retention System

2015-02-17
CURRENT
J567_201502
This SAE Standard references the performance and functional requirements of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and its U.S. member, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). By referring to IEC/ANSI and its standards concerning light source (bulb) sockets, light source (lamp) holders, and gages, this document recognizes the need for harmonized standards world-wide for what are typically commodity items. Additional requirements are noted.

Spark Plugs

2013-03-11
CURRENT
J548/1_201303
This SAE Standard applies only to spark plugs used for ground vehicles and stationary engines. This document is intended to serve as a guide to dimensions common to the majority of current production spark plugs and future applications. It is not the intent of this document to prohibit the manufacture of spark plugs having dimensions differing from those presented. Many applications exist which require specialized or nonstandard spark plugs. It is recommended that this document be used in spark plug design and engine applications wherever possible. Whenever design situations arise that prevent the use of one of these standard spark plugs, a spark plug manufacturer should be contacted for guidance. Figures 1 to 13 and Tables 1A to 6 show typical configurations of unshielded and shielded spark plug designs, their dimensional characteristics, installation, threaded hole, and spark plug thread sizes.

CURRENT
J2056/3_200002
This SAE Information Report studies the present transmission media axioms and takes a fresh look at the Class C transmission medium requirements and also the possibilities and limitations of using a twisted pair as the transmission medium. The choice of transmission medium is a large determining factor in choosing a Class C scheme.

Thermal Effectiveness of Sleeve/Tubing/Tape Insulation

2017-03-15
CURRENT
J2302_201703
This procedure measures the resistance to radiant heat flow of insulating materials in sleeve, tubing or tape (collectively referred to as “sleeve”) form. The sleeve’s effectiveness (SE) is determined by measuring the difference in surface temperature of a flat black, single-diameter ceramic cylinder with and without the standard diameter sleeve at the specified temperature, position, and distance from the radiant heat source.
