Development of a Parallel Hybrid System for RWD Vehicles

In December 2006, Nissan announced its Nissan Green Program 2010 (NGP 2010), a mid-term environmental action plan that includes initiatives to reduce vehicle emissions. In line with this plan, the company intends to introduce a new and original hybrid system in fiscal year 2010. Specifically, this system-called the “Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid”-is a one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid system that eliminates the need for a torque converter. It will be featured in the 2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid and provides the following advantages. 1 Significant improvement in fuel economy even in Highway driving 2 Better response and a more direct feeling 3 Lightweight and low cost This one-motor, two-clutch system without torque converter possesses a simple but highly capable architecture that is new to the passenger vehicle segment.

Development of a New 5.6 L V8 Gasoline Engine

This paper describes the new VK56VD engine, which was developed in response to growing demand for cleaner automobiles, better fuel economy, and improved engine performance. A 5.6 L V8 engine, the VK56VD will go into the new Infiniti M56 premium sport luxury sedan. To boost power and efficiency and lessen its environmental impact, this engine will utilize key technologies such as Continuous Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) and Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG). Details of the VK56VD are presented here along with highlights of the applied technologies and the development means.

Development of the New V6 3.5L Gasoline Direct Injection Engine

1 The new V6 3.5L gasoline direct injection engine, VQ35DD, was developed for the midsize premium SUV segment. This engine is the newest descendant of the VQ engine family and incorporates the latest technologies focused on enhanced driving performance, combined with high-level of environmental performance. Additional improvements include torque and power increase as well as improved fuel economy and emission performance. Simultaneous realization of both throttle response and smoothness are also in focus. To achieve these features, direct injection system, high response motor-driven intake Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control (e-Motor VVT), individual spark timing, mirror bore spray coating on the cylinder block, and various friction reduction technologies, such as variable displacement oil pump, are applied. Maximum engine power and torque are increased by 8 to 10%. Minimum BSFC is improved by 6%, combined with a wider spread of lower BSFC range considering CVT applications.
