Fundamental Concepts of Turbocharging Modern Engines Current Practices and Trends Web Seminar RePlay

Anytime
Turbocharging is an integral part of many internal combustion engine systems. While it has long been a key to diesel engine performance, turbocharging is increasingly seen as an enabler in meeting many of the efficiency and performance requirements of modern automotive gasoline engines. This replay discusses the basic concepts of turbocharging and air flow management of four-stroke engines. It explores the fundamentals of turbocharging, system design features, performance measures, and matching and selection criteria. Topics include spark ignition and diesel engine systems, the impact of different applications.

Driver Distraction from Electronic Devices: Insights and Implications Web Seminar RePlay

Anytime
Although many have an idea of what the term “driver distraction” means, there is no common definition within the research community. Additionally, there are many studies that have investigated the topic, but with varying and sometimes conflicting results. What should be made of these discrepancies? This four-hour replay will provide an overview of driver distraction (predominantly electronic devices): the problem; how to define it; the current state of research and how to critically evaluate that research to make informed decisions; and the effectiveness of state laws and fleet policies to reduce it.

Powertrain Selection for Fuel Economy and Acceleration Performance

Developing vehicles that achieve optimum fuel economy and acceleration performance is critical to the success of any automotive company, yet many practicing engineers have not received formal training on the broad range of factors which influence vehicle performance. This seminar provides this fundamental understanding through the development of mathematical models that describe the relevant physics and through the hands-on application of automotive test equipment. Attendees will also be introduced to software used to predict vehicle performance.

Design and Evaluation of Automotive Static Perceptual Quality

2020-11-06
Static perceptual quality is the term applied to the customer’s first impression of a car at the beginning of the buying process including how it looks, feels, and smells. This “first feeling” largely determines whether the customer continues through the purchase process. At present, OEMs have no systematic method for static perceptual quality in the whole vehicle design and development process, especially for the static perceptual quality review in the early stage of design and development before data freezing. Usually, it can only be evaluated after the vehicle is produced and assembled.

Human Systems Integration and SAE6906

This course introduces Human Systems Integration (HSI) and the new SAE International HSI best practice standard (SAE6906). DoD and other customers currently require HSI program plans in accordance with Department of Defense Data Item Description (DID) DI-HFAC-81743A. It is assumed that, for future system acquisition programs, customers (especially DoD) will require establishment and execution of a Human Systems Integration Program in compliance with SAE Systems Management Standard SAE6906. This course will assist students with planning and executing HSI program that are consistent with the DoD DID and SAE Standard 6906.

Aircraft Virtual Flight Testing and Certification in Off-nominal Multifactorial Situations

The behavior of a 'pilot-automaton-aircraft-operating environment' system (the System) in off-nominal situations with multiple risks can be unpredictably dangerous. Most multifactorial flight scenarios (corner cases) are considered as theoretically improbable. Such anomalies do nonetheless occur in operations and can lead to inconceivable accidents - 'black swan' events.

Human Factors for the Aviation Professional

The aerospace industry is focused on developing support and rationale for training related to human factors because it fosters a positive safety culture and it reinforces the concepts related to risk assessment, voluntary reporting, event investigation and peer-to-peer support. This seminar is intended to introduce the skills and knowledge necessary to identify and optimize the factors that affect human performance in maintenance and inspection.

Theories and Methods of Future HMI Design for Automobiles

2020-11-12
HMI design is an Interdisciplinary, which is based on human cognitive psychology and combines humanities, sociology, aesthetics, information science and other disciplines. While automotive technologies can be applied regardless of regions, HMI must be localized, as it is closely related to regional culture, people's living habits and characteristics. At the same time, HMI design has its own complete theoretical system, research and design methods and testing methods, instead of relying on experience. The purpose of this course is to equip people involved in the automotive industry with a basic sense of HMI design of vehicles.

Principled Negotiation

This highly interactive workshop focuses training on negotiation strategy and skills. This is not the manipulative, win-lose negotiation approach frequently taught today, where the winner eventually spends time and effort protecting his negotiated advantage against erosion, while the loser continually exploits loopholes and shortcuts to recover lost ground. Traditional negotiation is a wary dance based on mistrust, the true cost of which is lost in quality and brain fatigue - usually for someone other than the negotiator - over the life of the agreement.
