Ferrous Metals Bundle: Steel and Cast Iron

Anytime
Ferrous metals contain iron and are prized for their tensile strength and durability.  Most are magnetic and contain a high carbon content which generally makes them, with the exception of wrought iron and stainless steel, vulnerable to rust. The following seven on-demand courses are included in the Ferrous Materials Bundle: Steel and Cast Iron.  Each course is approximately one-hour in duration. See Topics/Outline for additional details.

Metallurgy of Steel: Principles

Anytime
This online course teaches the phases and microstructures that form in steels, their effects on steel properties, the microstructure changes that occur when steel is heated and cooled, the effects of carbon content and cooling rate on the microstructures that form. Also, how to read the iron-carbon phase diagram will be discussed. All this information is applicable to understanding the effects of steel heat treating processes and heat treating process parameters on the microstructure and properties of heat treated plain carbon, low-alloy, and tools steels. The course is divided into six modules followed by a quiz.

Electroplating

Anytime
Electroplating involves the deposition of thin layers of metal on metal components and metal stock. There are several uses for electrodeposited coatings including cosmetic, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. Knowledge about electroplating and electroplated coatings is important for product design, preventing and solving quality problems, and evaluating supplier capabilities and quality.

Wrought Aluminum Metallurgy

Anytime
There are a wide variety of wrought aluminum alloys, each developed to provide specific properties. Getting the strength you need in an aluminum alloy requires knowledge of the effects of alloy composition, cold-working, and heat treating on aluminum metallurgy and properties. A good understanding of how aluminum alloys behave and what can be done to modify their properties is critical for being more productive and profitable. The course takes about one hour to complete and consists of one module and a final exam. Also, quizzes and problems give you opportunities to apply the concepts taught.

Introduction to Advanced High Strength Steel Applications and Manufacturing

2019-10-07
Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) are now commonly used in automotive body structural applications. The high strength of this grade classification is attractive to help reduce mass in the automotive body through reduction in thickness. Strength also supports improvements in safety requirements so that mass increases are minimized. In some specific grades of AHSS, energy absorption is possible in addition to the high strength. This course will review the definition and properties of AHSS and cover several common applications in automotive body structures.

FAA Part 21 Certification Procedures for Products and Parts

2019-11-11
Part 21 is the FAA regulation that provides the regulatory framework to conduct certification of products and parts. This includes the engineering, airworthiness, production and quality systems. The aerospace industry is hinged around compliance with Part 21; however, comprehension of Part 21 and its role in civil certification is challenging. This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the processes that encompass aircraft certification, including compliance with FARs, certification procedures and post certification responsibilities.

Principled Negotiation

2019-12-12
This highly interactive workshop focuses training on negotiation strategy and skills. This is not the manipulative, win-lose negotiation approach frequently taught today, where the winner eventually spends time and effort protecting his negotiated advantage against erosion, while the loser continually exploits loopholes and shortcuts to recover lost ground. Traditional negotiation is a wary dance based on mistrust, the true cost of which is lost in quality and brain fatigue - usually for someone other than the negotiator - over the life of the agreement.

AS13000 Problem Solving Requirements for Suppliers

AS13000 defines the Problem-Solving standard for suppliers within the aero-engine sector, with the Eight Disciplines (8D) problem solving method the basis for this standard. This two-day course provides attendees with a comprehensive and standardized set of tools to become an 8D practitioner and meets all the requirements of the training syllabus in AS13000. Successful application of 8D achieves robust corrective and preventive actions to reduce the risk of repeat occurrences and minimize the cost of poor quality.

AS13003 Measurement System Analysis (MSA) Requirements for Aerospace Engine Supplier Quality

2019-10-10
AS 13003:2015 stipulates requirements to establish an acceptable measurement system (for variable and attribute features) for use on aerospace engines parts and assemblies.  Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) is used to evaluate and improve measurement systems in the workplace because it evaluates the test method, measuring instruments, and the process of acquiring measurements. The Aerospace Engine Supplier Quality (AESQ) Strategy Group published AS13003 to define the minimum requirements for conducting MSA for variable attribute assessment on characteristics as defined on the drawing specification.

AS9145 Requirements for Advanced Product Quality Planning and Production Part Approval

Production and continual improvement of safe and reliable products is key in the aviation, space and defense industries. Customer and regulatory requirements must not only be met, but they are typically expected to exceeded requirements. Due to globalization, the supply chain of this industry has been expanded to countries which were not part of it in the past and has complicated the achievement of requirements compliance and customer satisfaction. The IAQG has established and deployed the AS9145 Standard, as a step to help achieve these objectives.

Common Training for DPRV Personnel

2019-09-17
**Delivery Language is English unless noted otherwise with the date and location** In the aerospace industry, delegated product release is a process whereby a supplier has been provided the authority to act on behalf of a delegating organization to verify and release products without additional oversight from that delegating organization. Currently, each of these delegating organizations manages and conducts a unique training program for individuals responsible for their product release overcheck process. For suppliers producing products for multiple delegating organizations, each must then manage the multiple training requirements.
