Energy Harvesting/Regeneration for Electric Vehicles Land, Water & Air 2015-2025

2014-12-01
The electric vehicle industry - land, water and air - is rapidly rising to become a market of over $533 billion by 2025. Some run entirely on harvested energy as with solar lake boats. Others recycle energy as with regenerative braking of cars, buses and military vehicles harvesting kinetic energy. Others use different forms of harvesting either to charge the traction batteries, or to drive autonomous device. In some cases, harvesting is making completely new forms of electric vehicle possible such as "glider" Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) that can stay at sea for years, gaining electricity from both wave power and sunshine. Multiple forms of energy harvesting on one vehicle are becoming more common from cars to superyachts.

Malarkey and the Big Trap

2011-02-01
This wonderfully illustrated educational book, part of the award-winning A World In Motion program, teaches engineering principles to primary-age children through an imaginative and exciting story. Malarkey was a lazy cat. But he was a hungry cat, too. To catch some mice, he built a trap. Will his trap work in time for dinner? Malarkey certainly hopes so-but the mice may have other plans of their own. In Malarkey and the Big Trap, readers will follow this crazy cat's antics while he tries to build a better mousetrap. During the fun, readers will explore the behaviors of different components and how launch position can affect the whole process, similar to a pinball machine with ball traps and bumpers. Illustrated by Michele Shortly. Buy the Set of Four Children's Books The Three Little Pigs' Sledding Adventure Malarkey and the Big Trap Once Upon a Time in the Woods The Rocket Age Takes Off Proceeds of the sale of this book will benefit the pre-college programs of the SAE Foundation.

Henry Ford

2000-04-07
Henry Ford was one of the most misunderstood pioneers of the 20th century. Henry Ford: A Hearthside Perspective reveals a different side of the famous man. Werling, director of the Henry Ford Estate, University of Michigan-Dearborn, gained personal insight into Ford by researching the homesites, hearthsides, and communities where Ford had a strong influence. Through captivating anecdotes, this book offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on Ford and his business, political, and personal activities. Werling concludes that despite his shortcomings, Ford positively affected the lives of many with his contributions to the advancement of technology, his contributions to society through restoration, and his donations (over one-third of Ford's income was donated to philanthropic causes).

VHDL-AMS Statistical Analysis Packages

2006-10-23
CURRENT
J2748_200610
This document specifies the interface and the behavior of the VHDL-AMS packages for use in modeling statistical behavior. These packages are useful in defining the statistical variation of parameters of electrical, electronic, and mechatronic components and sub-systems. These can then be used with simulation tools to analyze the performance and reliability of systems composed of these components and sub-systems. Providing a standard definition of the package interfaces and their behavior is intended to facilitate the exchange of models between component and system manufacturers and the use of different CAE simulation tools. The SAE statistical package supports the statistical modeling of design parameters subject to tolerances for designs described using the VHDL or VHDL-AMS languages.

Software Assessment Repository

2009-04-23
CURRENT
J2746_200904
This standard is intended to provide corporations that develop embedded software for the automotive industry direction on how to effectively publish and promote their organization’s development capabilities. The organization’s maturity may be measured through several capability assessment methods; this document addresses how the results of those assessments are shared within the SAE J2746 Software Assessment Repository. The repository is the online database system utilized by the SAE to facilitate accurate and secure sharing of corporations’ software development capabilities. The SAE Software Assessment Repository is a web-based repository that allows organizations that develop embedded software to post and share their assessments in a uniform, disciplined manner. The repository does not mandate the use of one assessment method over another; rather, it reports the salient results from industry accepted assessment methods.

Definitions for Macrostrain and Microstrain

2011-08-04
CURRENT
J932_201108
In the analysis and measurement of residual stresses of materials, it has been noted that there are frequently differences in interpretation of the terms "macrostrain" and "microstrain." To assist communication among research personnel in this area, definitions for these two terms are suggested by the Fatigue Design and Evaluation Committee of SAE. Since "macrostress" is commonly computed from "macrostrain" in residual stress analysis, to be consistent, the definitions given are for "macrostrain" and "microstrain."
