This specification covers a butadiene-acrylonitrile (NBR) rubber in the form of molded rings. These rings have been used typically as sealing rings in contact with diester synthetic lubricants in service up 150 degrees C (302 degrees F), but usage is not limited to such applications. The cross-section of such rings is usually not over 0.275 inch (6.98 mm) in diameter or thickness.

This specification should not be used for molded rings, compression seals, O-ring cord, and molded in place gaskets for aeronautical and aerospace applications without complete consideration of the end use prior to the selection of this material.

This specification covers high temperature, compression set and fluid resistant fluorocarbon elastomer material to be used in the form of sheet, strip, tubing, extrusions and molded shapes for aeronautical and aerospace applications. This specification should not be used to address products such as O-rings, compression seals, O-ring cord, and molded-in-place gaskets. For those applications AMS7379 should be used.
