Cliff Garrett Turbomachinery Engineering Award - Participate - SAE International

Established in 1984, this award promotes engineering developments and the presentation of SAE papers on turbomachinery and/or developments that enable or advance the use of turbomachinery. The award honors Cliff Garrett and the inspiration he provided to engineers by his example, support, encouragement, and many contributions as an aerospace pioneer. To perpetuate recognition of Garrett's achievements and dedication as an aerospace pioneer, SAE administers an annual lecture by a distinguished authority in the engineering of turbomachinery and/or engineering related to creating, enabling, or advancing applications of turbomachinery in power systems, on-highway, off-highway, aircraft, and/or spacecraft uses. The award is made possible by a contribution from the Garrett Corp. (now a division of Honeywell).

Blue Origin aims for crewed New Shepard launch in 2019

Kent, Washington-based Blue Origin successfully completed the tenth launch of its suborbital launch vehicle New Shepard. The New Shepard is designed to be a crewed, space tourism vehicle, and although the launch was unmanned, statements made during Blue Origin’s launch broadcast suggest that the company has its first crewed launch test flight targeted for the end of this year.

Norsk and SAE International collaborate on world’s first directed energy deposition specification

Norsk Titanium’s proprietary “Rapid Plasma Deposition” (RPD) additive manufacturing (AM) process is distinguished in the aviation industry for producing complex, titanium structural and safety-critical components for many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). But today, through a partnership with SAE International, Norsk’s RPD process and material requirement specifications are available to a wider, global base of manufacturers.

SAE/Ramesh Agarwal Computational Fluid Dynamics Award - Participate - SAE International

SAE International  is excited to announce the addition of a prestigious new award that will recognize professionals who have made significant science and engineering contributions to computational fluid dynamics (CFD).  Nominees may be professionals from industry, academia, or government who have made contributions to CFD and its applications within the aerospace or ground vehicle industries. Nominations will be due in late 2019 for the inaugural award. Watch for details soon on how to nominate a deserving individual for this award. SpaceX tests Raptor engine, prepares for Starship “hop”

Hawthorne, California-based SpaceX has test fired its Raptor rocket engine at its Rocket Development and Test Facility, in McGregor, Texas. The Raptor is designed to power the Super Heavy first stage and Starship second stage launch vehicles.
