Research on Trajectory Planning and Tracking Strategy of Lane-changing and Overtaking based on PI-MPC Dual Controllers

Aiming at the problem of poor robustness after the combination of lateral kinematics control and lateral dynamics control when an autonomous vehicle decelerates and changes lanes to overtake at a certain distance. This paper proposes a trajectory determination and tracking control method based on a PI-MPC dual algorithm controller. To describe the longitudinal deceleration that satisfies the lateral acceleration limit during a certain distance of lane change, firstly, a fifth-order polynomial and a uniform deceleration motion formula are established to express the lateral and longitudinal displacements, and a model prediction controller (MPC) is used to output the front wheel rotation angle. Through the dynamic formula and the speed proportional-integral (PI) controller to control and adjust the brake pressure.

Initial Stress and Manufacture Stress Testing in Transparent Material

Transparent materials such as Plexiglas and glass are applied in airplane and boat widely as the windows and hatches. There are three type stresses in the structure made of Plexiglas or glass, which are residual stresses from the casting, residual stresses due to manufacturing process involving sheet forming structure and the stresses from serving period. In the paper the stresses are studied by laser scattered Photoelasticy method. Phase shift method is presented to recognize scattered light patterns automatically. The residual stresses in Plexiglas plate and shell were analyzed by thin plate-shell theory. Stresses in the Plexiglas and shell were tested by laser scattered Photoelastic method.

Noise Source Identification of a Diesel Engine Using Inverse Boundary Element Method

The inverse boundary element method (IBEM) is presented to accurately identify the noise sources of a diesel engine in this study. The sound pressures on four near-field planes were measured as inputs for the method. Then, the acoustic model of the full diesel engine was established using the boundary element method, and the acoustic transfer vectors (ATV) between the surface normal velocity and acoustic pressure at field points were calculated over the frequency range of interest. Based on the measured sound pressure and the ATVs, the surface normal velocity distribution of the diesel engine was reconstructed by the IBEM. The reconstructed pressures at two reference field points were compared with the measured ones. Furthermore, the panel contribution of each engine component was analyzed through the reconstructed surface velocity.

Investigation of Internal Thermal Impact Effect on Motorcycle Catalytic Converter Activity and Microstructure

Chinese new legislations on two wheels and mopeds have been published recently. Depending on the latest exhaust statistic analyses, with the resulting of tighter limits, the application of catalytic converters is becoming a prevalent and a cost-efficient solution for Chinese motorcycle manufacturers. The phenomenon of exhaust temperature changes rapidly during real driving process is well known as one of major destructive factors which have effects upon converter's durability. One 125 cm3 motorcycle is selected as a typical model in this research project. Exhaust temperature of the 125 cm3 motorcycle is measured and recorded during the process of ECE 40 driving cycle. A simulation test system has been set up successfully depending on those temperature data. Conversion ratio of converter sample lost distinctly after 18 hours' thermal impact tests. After further analyses, there were not evident changes in microstructure and substance on the surface of converter.

Investigations of Atkinson Cycle Converted from Conventional Otto Cycle Gasoline Engine

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are considered as the most commercial prospects new energy vehicles. Most HEVs have adopted Atkinson cycle engine as the main drive power. Atkinson cycle engine uses late intake valve closing (LIVC) to reduce pumping losses and compression work in part load operation. It can transform more heat energy to mechanical energy, improve engine thermal efficiency and decrease fuel consumption. In this paper, the investigations of Atkinson cycle converted from conventional Otto cycle gasoline engine have been carried out. First of all, high geometry compression ratio (CR) has been optimized through piston redesign from 10.5 to 13 in order to overcome the intrinsic drawback of Atkinson cycle in that combustion performance deteriorates due to the decline in the effective CR. Then, both intake and exhaust cam profile have been redesigned to meet the requirements of Atkinson cycle engine.

A Topological Map-Based Path Coordination Strategy for Autonomous Parking

This paper proposed a path coordination strategy for autonomous parking based on independently designed parking lot topological map. The strategy merges two types of paths at the three stages of path planning, to determinate mode switching timing between low-speed automated driving and automated parking. Firstly, based on the principle that parking spaces should be parallel or vertical to a corresponding path, a topological parking lot map is designed by using the point cloud data collected by LiDAR sensor. This map is consist of road node coordinates, adjacent matrix and parking space information. Secondly, the direction and lateral distance of the parking space to the last node of global path are used to decide parking type and direction at parking planning stage. Finally, the parking space node is used to connect global path and parking path at path coordination stage.

With the development of science and technology, breakthroughs have been made in the fields of intelligent algorithms, environmental perception, chip embedding, scene analysis, and multi-information fusion, which together prompted the wide attention of society, manufacturers and owners of autonomous vehicles. As one of the key issues in the research of autonomous vehicles, the research of vehicle lane change algorithm is of great significance to the safety of vehicle driving. This paper focuses on the conflict of interest between the lane-changing vehicle and the target lane vehicle in the fully autonomous driving environment, and proposes the method of coupling kinematics and game theory and reinforcement learning based optimization, so that when the vehicle is in the process of lane changing game, the lane-changing vehicle and the target lane vehicle can make decisions that are beneficial to the balance of interests of both sides.

1D-3D Coupled Analysis for Motor Thermal Management in an Electric Vehicle

Motor thermal management of electric vehicles (EVs) is becoming more significant due to its close relations to vehicle aerodynamic performance and power consumption, while computer aided engineering (CAE) plays an important role in its development. A 1D-3D coupled model is established to characterize transient thermal performance of the motor in an electric vehicle on a high performance computer (HPC) platform. The 1D motor thermal management model is integrated with the 1D powertrain model, and a 3D thermal model is established for the motor, while online data exchange is realized between the 1D and 3D models. The 1D model gives boundaries such as inlet coolant temperature, mass flowrate and motor heat generation to the 3D model, while the 3D model gives back boundaries such as heat transfer to coolant simultaneously. Transient simulations are performed for the 140kph(20°C) driving cycle, and the model is calibrated with experimental data.

Pump-End Control Technology for Small Engine Management System

A pump-end control technology for pump-nozzle fuel supply unit, in which the pump is driven and controlled electrically for pressurizing and metering the fuel fed into an engine, is studied. The unit is composed of a solenoid driven plunger pump, a high-pressure fuel tube, and an auto-open nozzle, and only the pump is propelled by PWM power from an ECU. To achieve a higher metering accuracy, a metering theory deciding the fuel discharging rate was developed by studying the system using a physical-mathematical model. The developed so called T3 theory makes the fuel supply unit with excellent metering consistency under various conditions, which can meet the requirement of fuel supply unit application to small engine management system. The study reveals that an electrically characterized variable, T3, which is associated with the net output energy, can directly results in a mass discharge.

Analysis on Emission Characteristics of Urban Buses Based on Remote Online Monitoring

In this study, a new system of assessment method was developed to evaluate the characteristics of urban buses based on remote online monitoring. Four types of buses, including China V emission standards diesel bus, lean-burn CNG bus, air-fuel equivalence ratio combustion CNG bus and gas-electric hybrid bus, were chosen as samples to analyze the emission characteristics of urban buses with different engine types in urban scenario. Based on the traffic conditions in Beijing, the actual emission characteristics of buses under newly-built driving conditions were analyzed. Moreover, the emission factor database of urban buses in Beijing was established to analyze the characteristics of excess emission. The research results are shown as follows. 1) Compared with other types of buses, NOX emission factor and emission rate of lean-burn CNG bus are much higher.

A Rule-Based Energy Management Strategy for a Light-Duty Commercial P2 Hybrid Electric Vehicle Optimized by Dynamic Programming

An appropriate energy management strategy can further reduce the fuel consumption of P2 hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) with simple hybrid configuration and low cost. The rule-based real-time energy management strategy dominates the energy management strategies utilized in commercial HEVs, due to its robustness and low computational loads. However, its performance is sensitive to the setting of parameters and control actions. To further improve the fuel economy of a P2 HEV, the energy management strategy of the HEV has been re-designed based on the globally optimal control theory. An optimization strategy model based on the longitudinal dynamics of the vehicle and Bellman’s dynamic programming algorithm was established in this research and an optimal power split in the dual power sources including an internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric machine at a given driving cycle was used as a benchmark for the development of the rule-based energy management strategy.

Thermal Efficiency Enhancement of a Turbocharged Diesel Engine Dedicated for Hybrid Commercial Vehicle Application

Hybrid powertrain has been proven to be an effective fuel-saving technology in commercial vehicles, but many hybrid commercial vehicles still use conventional diesel engines, resulting in limited fuel savings. The main purpose of this study is to enhance the thermal efficiency of a dedicated hybrid diesel engine focusing on the characteristic operating conditions. Via fundamental thermodynamics process analysis of internal combustion engine, steel piston with high compression ratio, air system involving two-stage turbocharger(2TC) with an intercooler, and late intake valve closing(IVC) timing are proposed to improve the thermal efficiency of the engine. Experimental results show that high compression ratio and lower thermal conductivity of the combustion chamber surface lead to lower heat release rates, requiring optimization of piston profile to accelerate the mixing rate. Besides, high compression ratio also leads to higher mechanical losses.

Organic Compound Exhaust Analysis from Ethanol-Gasoline Fueled Motorcycle

Ethanol-Gasoline was being promoted in China. Ethanol as substitute fuel could save such nature resource that cannot be regenerated. At the same time, oxygen additives also have potential dangerous, such as, poisonous organic compound. In this paper, a typical 125 mL four stroke single cylinder motorcycle was driven on chassis dynamometer at 5 different stable conditions which is specified in ECE 40 driving cycle. At each stably driving condition, raw gas from exhaust pipe was collected in corresponding bags respectively. Those samples were analyzed by means of gas chromatogram and mass spectrum analyzer (Agilent GC6890-MS5973). Poisonous ethanol compound such as benzene, toluene had been found in samples from ethanol blended fueled motorcycle exhausts and compared with samples from that of pure gasoline.

Analysis of a Coordinated Engine-Start Control Strategy for P2 Hybrid Electric Vehicle

P2 hybrid electric vehicle is the single-motor parallel configuration integrating with an engine disconnect clutch (EDC) between the engine and the motor. The key point with P2 hybrid electric vehicle is to start the engine utilizing the single driving motor while still propelling the vehicle, which requires an appropriate engine-start control strategy and a high mechanical performance of EDC. Since the space for EDC is limited, EDC torque response is difficult to follow the torque command, which complicates the issue of precisely controlling the clutch. Consequently, methods proposed in massive papers are inappropriate for current EDC of target vehicle. Considering that slip control of shifting clutch also contributes to reducing impact of engine start assisted by EDC, a detailed engine-start control strategy was proposed to simplify the control of EDC for being applied to actual target vehicle.

A Deviation-Based Centroid Displacement Method for Combustion Parameters Acquisition

The absence of combustion information continues to be one of the key obstacles to the intelligent development of engines. Currently, the cost of integrating cylinder pressure sensors remains too high, prompting attention to methods for extracting combustion information from existing sensing data. Mean-value combustion models for engines are unable to capture changes of combustion parameters. Furthermore, the methods of reconstructing combustion information using sensor signals mainly depend on the working state of the sensors, and the reliability of reconstructed values is directly influenced by sensor malfunctions. Due to the concentration of operating conditions of hybrid vehicles, the reliability of priori calibration map has increased. Therefore, a combustion information reconstruction method based on priori calibration information and the fused feature deviations of existing sensing signals is proposed and named the "Deviation-based Centroid Displacement Method" (DCDM).

Research on Intelligent Shift Strategy for Heavy Vehicles Based on Predictive Information

By installing an automated mechanical transmission (AMT) on heavy-duty vehicles and developing a reasonable shift strategy, it can reduce driver fatigue and eliminate technical differences among drivers, improving vehicle performance. However, after detaching from the experience of good drivers, the current shifting strategy is limited to the vehicle state at the current moment, and cannot make predictive judgment of the road environment ahead, and problems such as cyclic shifting will occur due to insufficient power when driving on the ramp. To improve the adaptability of heavy-duty truck shift strategy to dynamic driving environments, this paper first analyzes the shortcomings of existing traditional heavy-duty truck shift strategies on slopes, and develops a comprehensive performance shift strategy incorporating slope factors. Based on this, forward-looking information is introduced to propose a predictive intelligent shift strategy that balances power and economy.
