This document is based upon the SAE ARP5602 document, A Guideline for Aerospace Platform Fiber Optic Training and Awareness Education. ARINC Report 807: Fiber Optic Training Requirements is a subset of the SAE ARP5602 document designed to meet the requirements of the commercial air transport industry. Certification to the SAE ARP5602 document fulfills the requirements of ARINC Report 807. This document defines recommended general practices for training requirements of aerospace fiber optic systems. It is the intention of this document to outline proven training practices and general standards of workmanship for technicians engaged in aerospace fiber optic manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and repair for the air transport industry. It is also recommended that management and purchasing personnel receive fundamental training to familiarize themselves with the requirements of aerospace fiber optics.

The intent is for the cable assembly supplier to use this specification as a guideline to provide the prospective IFE contractor with cable assemblies that have adequate quality and performance for the intended application. These assemblies are suitable for cabin systems applications only. Applicable guidelines not found in this specification may be found in Section 9 of ARINC Specification 628 Part 4A.

ARINC Specification 628 Part 4 defines standards for the aircraft IFE Cabin Distribution System (CDS) wiring, connectors, power, identification codes, space envelopes and mounting principles. The equipment itself is not a subject of this specification because it may be unique to the system manufacturer or market place driven. Design guidelines are included for informational purposes as these guidelines impact the interfaces and installation of cabin equipment aboard the aircraft. The CDS, in daisy chain architecture, is the content of both Parts 4A and 4C of ARINC Specification 628. Part 4C presents the second generation also known as 2GCN of the daisy chain topology, as an evolution based on the experience gained with the first version of the CDS. The main difference is that the system in Part 4C is divided into two separated networks, one for data, connected to the CEC, and the other one for power, connected to the Aircraft Power Supply.
