Recent Test Data on Selection of Alloy Steels for Gears and Bearings

1972-02-01
720301
Results of three recent investigations on alloy carburizing, which independently arrived at similar conclusions, relate basic interpretations of the role of alloy composition, microstructure, and behavior of composite materials to the properties sought. Information on the impact and pitting resistance properties of carburized steels is discussed. Quantitative data on the effect of alloys, heat treatment, and mechanical processing provide assistance to the gear and bearing designer in the more efficient utilization of materials.

Nickel-Copper-Columbium Steel — A New Concept in High Strength Constructional Materials

1968-04-09
680246
A low alloy, age hardening nickel-copper-columbium steel has been developed which combines high strength with excellent ductility and adequate toughness for ambient temperature applications. Low carbon content enhances its weldability and a simple heat treatment permits prefabrication of complex structures. These properties permit the designer a wider latitude and provide a basis for economic fabrication and repair of engineered structures.
