In-line, Elbow, and Tee Flanged Connectors for use with SAE J518-1/ISO6162-1 Components

2015-02-03
WIP
J518/4
This document standardizes the design of connector blocks used for joining SAE J518-1/ISO 6162-1 (Code 61) flange heads with other SAE J518-1/ISO 6162-1 (Code 61) flange heads with straight, elbow, and tee geometries. The blocks specified in this document are designed to provide for very compact installations. As a result, the tap depths specified in this document do not conform to those specified in SAE J518-1/ISO 6162-1 to allow for a minimal bend radius in the elbow and tee configurations. This document specifies both inch and metric configurations

Round Head Bolts

1990-01-01
CURRENT
J481_199001
Round head bolts are made in two body styles: (a) A full size body, with a maximum diameter somewhat greater than the nominal diameter (not an SAE Standard except for ribbed neck bolts, Table 3); and (b) an undersize body, with a minimum diameter approximating the pitch diameter of the thread and a maximum diameter never exceeding nominal (SAE standard for all types except ribbed neck bolts). The body diameter of either style may be exceeded by a reasonable swelling or fin under the head, or under corners of the square necks, to the extent that serviceability is not affected.

Alignment of Nut Slots

1990-01-01
CURRENT
J484_199001
This method of gaging alignment of nut slots allows equal variations for location of the cotter pin hole in the bolt and location of slots in the nut. To inspect the nut, the slotted gage is inserted through the nut hole from the bearing surface of the nut. Alignment of slots is considered satisfactory if the gage pin can be slipped into the gage and nut slots without interference.

Motor Vehicle Measurement Certification Standard

2012-08-15
WIP
J3017
This recommended practice applies to any vehicle manufacturer that chooses to publish vehicle dimensions and specifications that may influence customer purchase decisions. The intent is to define standardized vehicle dimensions that reflect showroom conditions and / or dimensions experienced during purchase conditions and also include published dimensions used in marketing / advertising materials irrespective of communications media that influence purchase decisions This document also provides a method to certify OEM and 3rd party compliance with recommended SAE and ISO measurement practices for vehicle dimensions commonly reported publically for marketing and competitive vehicle analysis

WIP
J3158
The scope of this new recommended practice should include, but not necessarily be limited to: 1. Define vehicle operating conditions used to drive MOC-EPB actuator design and selection 2. Define brake corner operating conditions (e.g. temperature and state of burnish) used to drive MOC-EPB actuator design and selection 3. Define actuator operating conditions (e.g. temperature, voltage, current limit, and state of wear) used to drive MOC-EPB actuator design and selection 4. Define methodology for addressing part to part variation in performance

Fuel Efficiency: Racing Toward CAFE 2025 (DVD)

2015-04-15
"Spotlight on Design" features video interviews and case study segments, focusing on the latest technology breakthroughs. Viewers are virtually taken to labs and research centers to learn how design engineers are enhancing product performance/reliability, reducing cost, improving quality, safety or environmental impact, and achieving regulatory compliance. Fuel efficiency, or simply put, how to get more mileage out of the same amount of fuel has become one of the main goals to be achieved by new automotive technologies in the future, thanks in part to new government regulations. In the episode "Fuel Efficiency: Racing toward CAFE 2025" (21:24) AVL engineers show simulation and testing being used to design more fuel efficient vehicles, including the equipment that actually analyzes fuel economy.
