Automated Driving Reference Architecture

2016-02-04
WIP
J3131
SAE J3131 defines an automated driving reference architecture that contains functional modules supporting future application interfaces for Levels 3 through 5 (J3016). The architecture will model scenario-driven functional and nonfunctional requirements, automated driving applications, functional decomposition of an automated driving system, and relevant functional domains (i.e., functional groupings). Domains include, but are not limited to, automated driving (i.e., automation replacing the human driver), by-wire and active safety, and those related to automated recovery from faults and system failures (e.g., system bringing the vehicle to a safe state). The architecture will address Tier 1 and Tier 2 functional groupings. The document will include one example instantiation being divides the functionality into two functionality groupings, and will detail the functional and information interface between the groups.

Publications & Standards Database

2005-03-08
Thank you for your interest in the Publications and Standards Database. This demo provides a representative sample of SAE's collection of mobility data. It demonstrates the search engine features and functions and includes a data set of more than 900 document summaries with bibliographic information, including abstracts. This subset contains examples of references for technical papers, standards, journal and magazine articles, specifications, regulations, and research reports, and represents all areas of mobility engineering for land, sea, air, and space. You will be asked to login to the SAE Website before accessing the demo. This will require you to register as a new user if you do not already have an SAE Website account. WIP
J3158
The scope of this new recommended practice should include, but not necessarily be limited to: 1. Define vehicle operating conditions used to drive MOC-EPB actuator design and selection 2. Define brake corner operating conditions (e.g. temperature and state of burnish) used to drive MOC-EPB actuator design and selection 3. Define actuator operating conditions (e.g. temperature, voltage, current limit, and state of wear) used to drive MOC-EPB actuator design and selection 4. Define methodology for addressing part to part variation in performance

Can America Plug In?

2011-11-04
There are many macro drivers that are creating opportunities for transportation electrification. They include the environment, dependence on foreign oil, national security, battery technology and government incentives to name a few. In light of this growing momentum consumers will have choices to where they can charge ? at home, workplace or publicly. Electrical vehicle supply equipment will drive value throughout the supply chain ? installer, building owner, automaker, suppliers, utilities and consumers. Market acceptance will occur when consumer?s needs and wants are met. To meet these needs access to products through multiple channels will be required. Presenter Manoj Karwa, Leviton Manufacturing Co. Inc.

Flexible Real-Time Simulation of Truck and Trailer Configurations

2011-12-05
Real-time simulation of truck and trailer combinations can be applied to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems for developing and testing electronic control units (ECUs). The large number of configuration variations in vehicle and axle types requires the simulation model to be adjustable in a wide range. This paper presents a modular multibody approach for the vehicle dynamics simulation of single track configurations and truck-and-trailer combinations. The equations of motion are expressed by a new formula which is a combination of Jourdain's principle and the articulated body algorithm. With the proposed algorithm, a robust model is achieved that is numerically stable even at handling limits. Moreover, the presented approach is suitable for modular modeling and has been successfully implemented as a basis for various system definitions. As a result, only one simulation model is needed for a large variety of track and trailer types.

OBD Approval Process

2012-01-24
The OBD approval process can be a frustrating time for both manufacturer and ARB staff. For manufacturers, a long approval process can sometimes mean accepting deficiencies prematurely in exchange for an approval. For ARB staff, they are inundated with highly technical information which they must review, garner understanding of and then apply their experience to evaluate it for compliance. OBD approval anxiety can be minimized, if not avoided, when manufacturers understand ARBs expectations. This presentation will take you through some unwritten rules and common pitfalls which can impede the approval process, thus providing a guideline to a less painful and more efficient certification document review and approval.
