The thermal management system is critical in the design and sizing of electric vehicle (EV) powertrains. Traditionally, the process involves a model-based system design approach which uses supplier reference component data characterised and embedded into a multi physics model. Unfortunately, this process often results in undisclosed errors that manifest in the interactions between the components and the environment. Our proposed solution introduces a plug-and-play test bench to establish a simulation platform. This platform eliminates these errors at the outset of the design process bundled into a functional interaction matrix of several components rather than a single component, offering a more efficient and error-free approach to thermal management system design in EV powertrains. This new approach provides a reliable platform for control system design and virtual sensor development, supporting the transition from conceptual design to hardware implementation.
