Test Procedure for Parking Stability of Motorcycles

2021-08-16
WIP
J1101
Side stands and center stands are designed to support stationary two-wheel motorcycles. This SAE Standard establishes procedures for determining parking surface loading and stability limits as follows: a. The footprint pressure exerted on a horizontal parking surface by the stand. b. The tilt angle of the parking surface at which tip-over occurs. c. The tilt angle of the parking surface at which roll-off occurs.

Riding Range Test Procedure for On-Highway Electric Motorcycles

2022-10-13
CURRENT
J2982_202210
This SAE Recommended Practice incorporates dynamometer test procedures that produce riding range estimates for electric motorcycles during stop-and-go urban riding on surface streets and commuting trips in urban areas that include operation on freeways. This is typically done using a “coastdown” approach by disengaging the engine and assuming all losses are aerodynamic. However, with inherent losses in an electric motor, and no way to fully disengage the motor, another approach is to use a “on-road, constant speed” (Appendix B) method for fully electric vehicles to develop dynamometer coefficients.

Motorcycle Stop Lamp Switch

1998-07-01
HISTORICAL
J1167_199807
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes test procedures and performance requirements for stop lamp switches intended for use in an AC or a DC circuit on motorcycles. In service use may impose specific conditions on the switch which can affect its functional life. Those conditions should be replicated, as necessary, during the testing described in this document to ensure the adequate functioning of the device.

Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary On-Highway Motorcycles

2020-07-17
CURRENT
J2825_202007
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes test procedures, test conditions, environment, and instrumentation for determining the exhaust sound pressure levels of stationary motorcycles. These are based on a comprehensive study of a wide variety of on-highway motorcycles, and therefore are intended to be applied to on-highway motorcycles. For off-highway motorcycles, SAE J1287 continues to be the recommended practice.
