SAE International Aerospace Japan Symposium–Emerging Technology and Standardization

In conjunction with Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2018 Tokyo

November 29-30, 2018 │ Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo Japan

Held 14 times since 1966—once every four years, alternately in Tokyo and Nagoya—the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition is among the most important international trade fairs focused on aviation and space. This premier aerospace event would normally be held in 2020, but because of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, the organizers, the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (SJAC), decided to conduct a smaller-scale event called “JA2018 TOKYO” in 2018.

Even though, SJAC is describing this event as “smaller,” due to the smaller foot print of the exhibit space, it is just as significant for the aerospace industry, with three days open for trade and one day for public attendance. As of July 27,2018, 250 companies have confirmed to exhibit, with an estimated 20,000 visitors expected.

The Center for Aviation Innovation Research (CAIR), University of Tokyo with the support of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and SJAC requested SAE International to collaborate on a technical symposium to be held in conjunction with the JA 2018 TOKYO. For the first time, SAE will conduct the SAE International Aerospace Japan Symposium–Emerging Technology and Standardization on Nov. 29-30 in Tokyo as part of JA 2018 Tokyo. SAE is inviting the best global experts in the aerospace community to participate in this special program with the objective of:

  • Providing aerospace and related professionals, students, faculty, and government officials with an overview of SAE’s activities in mobility engineering by convening experts from industry, academia, and government from around the world.
  • Providing an overview of new technologies in aerospace engineering.
  • Highlighting the importance of participation in global standards development as a means to open market potential and take control of the topics and technologies.

The SAE International Aerospace Japan Symposium–Emerging Technology and Standardization is organized by SAE International and the Center for Aviation Innovation Research, CAIR, with support from International Aircraft Development Fund (IADF), SJAC, Tokyo Big Sight Inc. and International Council of Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS).

SAE International is helping the global aerospace industry tackle its greatest challenges: additive layer manufacturing, more-electric aircraft and more electric engine, as well as the new paradigms in digitization, big data, and autonomous and unmanned flight. With more than 7,500 active aerospace standards, materials specifications, recommended practices, and information reports maintained by more than 180 expert stakeholder committees, SAE International standards are recognized and used globally by aviation regulators, OEMs, and suppliers throughout the aerospace industry to advance technology while ensuring safety, efficiency, quality, and cost-savings of aerospace systems.

In addition to a comprehensive body of global standards, SAE International also provides conferences and events, such as the world-class AEROTECH® Americas and AEROTECH® Europe and training on critical aerospace topics and publishes a wealth of technical papers and other engineering content, making SAE International the premier technical professional organization for aerospace engineers.
