Why you should attend:

  • Hear and discuss the latest research and development in automotive electronics, ITS, telematics, ADAS, sensors, actuators, radar, connectivity, systems engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure as it relates to automated and connected vehicles.
  • Gain a more complete understanding of the complexity of engendered engineering verification and validation.
  • Share and gain insights into new paradigms and reference architectures and consensus-benchmarks with complex computational models and fielded experimental deployments.
  • Highlight the benefits of modularity, interoperability and the role of open-architectures, open-interfaces and open-standards that has significantly shortened the market penetration (including potentially the benefit of roadmaps from the computer & electronics hardware and software industry).
  • Meet with standards developers and government officials to learn about the latest system requirements both from a regulatory and OE perspective.

Who should attend:

  • Engineering Professionals
  • Research & Development
  • Systems Developers
  • Scientists
  • Decision-makers…

…from a wide array of disciplines and industries that contribute to the realization of the fully evolved Connected and Automated Vehicle future.

Emergency Procedures During This SAE Event

During this SAE event attendees are to follow the established emergency guidelines of the facility where the emergency occurs. Based on the location of the incident, report emergencies to the nearest venue representative and/or security personnel if available, or report to the SAE operations office on site.

Should a catastrophic event occur, attendees should follow the safety and security instructions issued by the facility at the time of the event. This includes listening for instructions provided through the public-address system and following posted evacuation routes if required.

In case of an emergency, or a major disruption to the schedule of the event, attendees and exhibitors may call the below number to receive updated information on the status of the event. Updates will also be provided via the SAE website at and event mobile app.

Meticulously planned by a key group of organizers representing leading companies within the industry, this symposium features technical sessions that will be presented on the following topics: Connected and Automated Vehicle-related technologies, cyber-enables system capabilities, human-in-the-loop element, subsystem and system engineering frameworks, and more.

Free sneak peek of SAE International's 'Journal of Connected and Automated Vehicles'

Gain a deeper understanding of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) in on-road, off-road, and aerial operational environments through high-quality theoretical and applied investigations of peer-reviewed scientific papers in the SAE International Journal of Connected and Automated Vehicles.

The journal showcases strong theoretical and empirical contributions and findings to the body of engineering knowledge surrounding various facets of the lifecycle treatment (design, modeling, controlling, testing, demonstration, and experimentation) of connected and automated vehicles with an emphasis on the system perspective. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following within the overall CAV system context:

  • Active- and semi-active connected and automated vehicle control (adaptive, fuzzy, cooperative, neuro, emergent paradigms)
  • Hybrid simulation- and empirical-testing paradigms (model-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop)

 Human-in-the-loop Element

  • Active vehicle safety architectures (occupant, pedestrian)
  • Human machine Interaction design (driver- and controller-interfaces)
  • Varying grades of driver-assistance systems
  • Psycho-social facets of shared control (trust, variability)

 Subsystem and System Engineering Frameworks

  • Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
  • Multi-vehicle cooperation, connected vehicles, platooning
  • Platooning and fleet management
  • Reproducible testing and validation architectures and paradigms
  • Noise, network failure, faults, reliability analysis
  • Application use cases (warehousing, x-docking, mining, agriculture, military)

  • Active perception architectures and implementations (radar, vision, lidar) for CAVs
  • Sensors, sensor fusion (infrastructure and vehicle-based) for CAVs
  • Vehicle design, analysis, and control enhancements for CAVs
  • Electrification/vehicle electronics architectures and implementations for CAVs
  • Communication architectures and implementations (V2x) for CAVs
  • Real-time computational paradigms and architectures (AI, model-based) for CAVs
  • Novel actuation paradigms (structural control, reconfigurable systems) for CAVs

Cyber-enabled System Capabilities

  • Big data analysis, cloud computing architectures
  • Vehicle navigation and situational awareness
  • Fault detection and diagnosis, fault tolerant control
  • Cybersecurity and cyber-enhanced security

Alert—Room Reservations

SAE International does not use a housing bureau or third-party agency for hotel accommodations or any other travel arrangements. Any claims by any company stating otherwise are not true. Please be sure you are booking directly through the links on this page or directly with a specific property.

Message to Attendees

SAE International has made every effort to secure the best possible group nightly room rate for you at this event. That rate results from a negotiated overall package of event needs such as sleeping rooms, meeting room space and other requirements. Contracts with the venue include a provision to reduce event costs if SAE meets or exceeds its minimum sleeping room block guarantee. Conversely, event costs will increase if SAE falls short of its minimum room block guarantee. Please help SAE keep the costs of this event as low as possible by booking your housing needs at the designated host hotel and through the reservation process created by SAE. Reserving elsewhere means you are booking outside the contracted room block, jeopardizing SAE's ability to meet its contracted obligations and to keep registration fees to a minimum. SAE appreciates your support and understanding of this important issue.
