SAE’s University Programs Leaves Lasting Impact on John Deere’s Danny Bocci

Posted: July 23, 2024

Danny Bocci, Software Developer at John Deere, credits SAE’s University Programs for each job he’s had in his professional journey.

He was involved in a number of university competitions during college at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and believes he wouldn’t be where he is today without SAE.

“All of my experiences in the collegiate design series and the networking I was able to do at competitions I can directly trace that to every single job I’ve had as I’ve gone through my career,” said Danny.

As Danny can attest, networking is critical for success, and SAE’s University Programs provide ample opportunities to make connections.

Danny is currently the Chief of Tech for Formula SAE Electric. In this volunteer role, he leads the EV tech process, rules development, and document review, among anything else in the competition that is electrical systems related. He also oversees the Red Car, a new development this year for dealing with electrical problems in the students’ cars.

“It’s a more formalized procedure and response team that we’ve got going on out of an abundance of caution to help work through and deal with any electrical problems in the cars,” said Danny. “So, when any volunteer detects a car that they think might have an issue, they will radio in our team will respond just like the firefighters here on site.”

This new development has been critical to the safety and success of the university teams and volunteers.

In addition to ensuring the safety of everyone on site, the volunteers have a lot of fun. Danny is a part of a core group focused on EV tech that all get along and have a great time together, but they are also ready to put their heads done on whatever needs to be done and be done right.

For Danny, continuing the mentorship he experienced as a University Programs student is most meaningful as a volunteer.

“It’s important to help continue the mentoring I experienced and help raise the next generation of engineers. I get a lot of enjoyment out of that,” said Danny.

There are so many opportunities to volunteer with SAE and make a real, lasting impact on the industry like Danny has. See how you can get involved
