All major components on the new PC290LC-11 hydraulic excavator including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors, and valves are exclusively designed and produced by Komatsu.

Komatsu America launches new hydraulic excavator

With an operating weight range between 66,359 lb (30,100 kg) and 68,122 lb (30,900 kg), Komatsu America Corp.'s PC290LC-11 hydraulic excavator features improved efficiency, lower fuel consumption, improved operator comfort, and enhanced serviceability to maximize productivity while lowering operating costs.

The PC290LC-11 is equipped with the latest KOMTRAX telematic remote monitoring technology with data access via the web or via KOMTRAX Mobile for a smart phone. In addition to providing data such as fuel levels, operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts, KOMTRAX has been further enhanced to monitor DEF levels, ambient air temperatures, and pressures. A new Operator Identification System reports key operating information for up to 100 operators. A new Auto Idle Shutdown function helps improve operating costs by reducing unnecessary idle time.

With a net 196 hp (147 kW), the PC290LC-11 is powered by a Tier 4 Final Komatsu SAA6D107E-3 engine built on the strength of its proven Tier 4 Interim foundation. By integrating SCR, the T4F engine further reduces NOx emissions using DEF. The engine also uses an advanced electronic control system to manage the airflow rate, fuel injection, combustion parameters, and aftertreatment functions to optimize performance, reduce emissions, and provide advanced diagnostic capability. The result is lower fuel consumption with no loss of performance, says the company. Technologies continued from T4I include a Komatsu variable geometry turbocharger and an EGR valve for more precise temperature and air management control as well as longer component life.

To ensure product reliability and durability in demanding conditions, Komatsu developed the entire system, including the control software, which is critical to the effective operation of the aftertreatment system. This control system is also integrated into the machine’s onboard diagnostics systems and KOMTRAX.

All major components on the new PC290LC-11 including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors, and valves are exclusively designed and produced by Komatsu. This integrated design uses a closed center load sensing hydraulic system, which takes "hydraulic efficiency to the next level" using variable speed matching (VSM) technology. VSM allows the engine speed to adjust based on the hydraulic pump output for both light- and heavy-duty applications. Additional enhancements have been made within the hydraulic system to reduce hydraulic loss, resulting in better efficiency.

The PC290LC-11 cab provides a comfortable and quiet work environment to help operators maximize productivity. The ROPS-certified cab specifically designed for hydraulic excavators gains strength from a reinforced box structure framework. The cab is mounted on viscous isolation dampers that help limit low vibration levels. It features a standard air suspension high back seat with newly designed fully adjustable armrests and heat for improved comfort is also included. In addition to the standard radio, there is an auxiliary input for connecting external devices to play music through stereo cab speakers. Additionally there are two 12-V power ports incorporated into the cab. Optional joysticks are available with proportional controls for operating attachments.

A high-resolution 7-in LCD color monitor features enhanced capabilities and the operator can easily select up to six working modes to match machine performance to the application. The monitor panel provides information on DEF fluid level, ECO guidance, operational records, fuel consumption history, and utilization information. A standard rearview camera with wide landscape allows the operator to view directly behind the machine.

The PC290LC-11 provides easier service access to reduce downtime. The new model has guardrails on both sides of the upper structure for easier accessibility. The radiator and hydraulic oil cooler are mounted side by side, making it easier to maintain and service these two components when required.

The machine is equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which has enhanced diagnostic features that give the operator and technicians greater monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities. EMMS also continuously monitors all critical systems, preventative maintenance, and provides trouble-shooting assistance to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

The PC290LC-11’s heavy-duty frame is built on a PC360 undercarriage for stability and long life.
