SAE Women-in-Automotive Scholarship, supported by Android Auto™

To support women who are students pursuing a software, electronics, electrical, mechatronics, or other related engineering degree and to aspire them to career opportunities in the automotive industry.

SAE International is proud to make this scholarship available with support from Android Auto.

The SAE Women-in-Automotive Scholarship encourages more female students to major in software engineering or similar disciplines and to aspire to career opportunities in the automotive industry. With solutions for the car like Android Auto, Google aims to build products and services that enable a safe and seamless driving experience.   • Minority students are encouraged to apply
  • Open to all applicants - incoming freshman GPA 3.75; college upperclassmen (incoming sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate students) 3.5 GPA.
  • Pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics or similarly related engineering degree through an attending a US ABET accredited program
  • MUST provide FAFSA Form: Maximum EFC # of $15,000 as shown on FAFSA
  • Provide two (2) Letters of Recommendation – one (1) that focuses on academics and one (1) that speaks to your participation in extra-curricular, association/community or employment activities that reflect your commitment to advance involvement of women in engineering
  • Show examples of STEM studies or coursework applicable to Automotive Industry
  • Demonstrate a commitment to increase the involvement of women in engineering and encourage girls/women to pursue STEM studies/careers through substantial involvement/leadership in school, work, community, club, volunteer, or mentorship activities. (extra point for demonstrating involvement in Automotive Industry)
  • SAE will strive to award thirteen (13) scholarships of $5,000 on an annual basis depending on number of qualified candidates and fund availability; (This includes Freshman through Upperclassmen students)
  • Recipient will be selected by the SAE Scholarship Committee and notified by the end of June
  • This scholarship will be paid into your account at your selected university in July/August
  • It can be used for tuition or any other incidental school expenses

Applications for the 2023/24 academic year have closed. Applications for the 2024/25 academic year will open February 1, 2024.
