This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) documents the vibration areas and vibration spectrum needed in determining electrical connector selection for typical jet aircraft. This AIR defines aircraft areas, the vibration spectrum for those areas and a coupling mechanism recommendation for circular electrical connectors.
Rationale: Definition of high vibration areas are needed to define and differentiate from entire aircraft. For example: the clamp AS23190/4 identifies standard configuration and one with a radius block. The radius block configuration performance is superior and designed for high vibe areas. These areas are not defined but in the AIR1557. The simple means of identification aligns with the Mil-Dtl-38999 connectors and is regarded as the standard for EWIS applications. Further applications include the SWAMP and high vibration areas cited (but not defined) in the AS50881 (Aerospace Wiring) standard. By re-instating the AIR1557 with slight title and application updates, the aerospace EWIS community can benefit from clear guidance and performance definitions.
