This information will explain the effects of extremely cold temperature on landing gear performance and actuation. Cold temperature affects hydraulic fluid and pneumatic properties, which in turn affect shock strut and tire performance during landing and ground operations, as well as gear retraction and extension. This information is intended to aid the design process as well as operation and maintenance considerations.
