Balancing Machine Technology - Proper Use and Performance of Response Checks
SCOPE – The scope of this Aerospace Information Report includes practical applications, theory, process management, audit and control recommendations, limitations, additional considerations, and process documentation.
Rationale: To judge whether a balancing equipment produces reliable unbalance indication a calibration needs to be performed. However this is a quite elaborate procedure using special test rotors acc. to SAE ARP 4048, 4050 etc. and will test for machine performance only. It will not show if the actual job is setup correctly and produces valid unbalance indication. So during production a shortened calibration procedure called response check is a useful tool to determine the actual performance when results are in doubt or to validate a finished balancing process of a particular part or module.
The purpose of this report is to inform and instruct the reader in the proper application and use of response checks to obtain validated measurement results.
