This specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of forgings 3.000 inches (76.20 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides and 9 in2 (58 cm2) and under in cross-sectional area and forging stock of any size (see 8.7).
Rationale:
AMS4976L results from a Five-Year Review and update of the specification. Changes have been made to require reporting of properties outside the size limits (3.5.1.1.3), prohibit unauthorized exceptions (3.8, 8.5), revise composition (2.2, 3.1) and reporting (4.4.3), and allow use of immediate prior specification revision (8.6).
