Rotary and Linear Mechanical Actuators - General Guidelines for
ARP7101
This project will create an Aerospace Recommended Practice that provides comprehensive guidelines for the design and specifications for rotary and linear mechanical actuators for use in aircraft mechanically distributed actuation systems including but not limited to flap, slat , cargo door, and weapons bay door actuators.
Rationale: Currently ARP5812 Actuators, Linear Mechanical, General Guidelines for and ARP4058 General Specification Guide for Mechanical Geared Rotary Actuators address the rotary or linear output stage of a mechanical actuator. There is a need to bridge the gap in actuator design between the rotary input shaft power and these output stages. This document will address reduction and angle change gearing, load limiting and anti-back drive devices, and position indication for these mechanical actuators.
