Verification Test Requirements for Balance Machines
Verification test procedure for all “current technology” horizontal and vertical balancing machines. This specification would contain the material currently within Section 5 of the individual specifications for the machines mentioned, along with their associated appendices.
Rationale: The body of specifications for balance machines considered “current technology” in the aerospace industry is as follows:
• ARP4048 Horizontal, 2 Plane, Hard Bearing
• ARP4050 Vertical, 2 Plane, Hard Bearing
• ARP5323 Vertical, 1 Plane, Hard Bearing
• ARP6217 Vertical, 1 Plane, Non-Rotating
Currently, when the general methodology of performing a verification test is modified, all four documents need to be updated. As revision updates for all four of these documents are not released simultaneously, inevitably, one or more documents are likely to contain old language that needs to be updated.
By breaking out Section 5 of the four above specifications and creating a single, stand-alone specification, it can be updated and released as needed, without the issue of the language in other specifications lagging behind. As such, the latest verification methodology will be unambiguously available at all times.
A precedent for such a consolidation of material from many specifications into a single, stand-alone specification already exists, where “Appendix C” from all 4 of the above listed specifications has been consolidated into ARP4162 Balancing Machine Proving Rotors.
