Endurance tests for Aircraft Electric Engine
ARP8689
Provide guidance to test the durability and integrity requirements of Electric Engines to be type certificated for installation in aircraft. This ARP is intended to provide a means to demonstrate compliance to certification requirements of Engines separately of aircraft certification requirements.
Rationale: The civil aviation certification authorities are issuing Special Conditions for the airworthiness and type design of aircraft electric engines that includes endurance/durability requirements.
New interpretation of engine endurance tests certification requirements is required for electric engines to reach a standard level of safety between electrified propulsion aircraft and reciprocating/gas turbines powered aircraft.
