Insulation Sleeving, Electrical, Heat Shrinkable, General Specification for
AS23053A
This specification establishes the requirements for various types and colors of electrical insulating sleeving that will shrink to a predetermined size upon the application of heat. This specification includes provisions for demonstrating compliance with qualification requirements (see Section 4 and 7.3), in process inspection, and statistical process control inspections (see 4.4). The continuous operating temperature ranges for the sleeving classes covered by this specification are from -112 to +482 °F (-80 to +250 °C). The continuous operating temperature range for each sleeving class is given in the applicable detail specification.
Rationale:
Transition timeline based on the specification publication date requires to be updated based on the actual publication of QPL. Clarifications are required to address questions received.
(4.6.b.iv) The transitional qualification by the manufacturer’s certifying statement, the material, the process, and the performance are the same before and after the qualification. Any discrepancies found during the transitional qualification applies to all parts produced prior to and for the qualification.
Table 5: The exemption from qualification for the four listed tests are currently on detail specification for /11 and /12. Listing these tests and stating they do not need to be tested is causing confusion. This change deletes exemptions from the detail specification (/11 and /12) and added to the base specification.
