CONDITION IN CONTAINER OF LIQUID ORGANIC COATING COMPONENTS
Develop a new "AS" test procedure for determining "Condition in Container" where the characterization of an newly opened can or container of Aerospace coating can be determined by visual and physical observations using the criteria's listed in this new test method.
Rationale: This SAE Aerospace standard will provide a comprehensive procedure for the visual and physical characterization of a newly opened can of liquid pigmented material, clear liquid, and thinner components in a coating system. The current standards Federal Test Method 141D and ISO 1513 do not have an evaluation process for thinner components or a condition where the can or container may be compromised. A metal can that is visually degraded or compromised may impact the cure of a coating system. A list of key terms associated with the ‘condition in container” will be formally defined in this test method. There is not a comprehensive industry standard that provides this information and assessment for Aerospace related coating systems. If there is not a referencing specification that provides a list of conditions where those conditions would cause a rejectable condition for condition in container, then this new "AS" will provide a default list of rejectable criteria.
