Rationale: At the Fall 2016 SAE S-9A meeting, there was general consensus that the committee should proceed with developing an Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) to provide guidance for developing and testing new escape slide systems. However, at the Spring 2017 SAE S-9A meeting, the committee was informed that the FAA is planning to revise TSO-C69c in the near future. As a result, the committee agreed to stop work on the ARP, and start an Aerospace Standard (AS) that would establish the minimum performance requirements. The intent of this AS is to clarify certain paragraphs of TSO-C69c which are considered to be vague or in need of updating.
