Rubber: Butadiene-Acrylonitrile (NBR) For Elastomeric Seals in Aircraft Synthetic Hydrocarbon Based Hydraulics Systems
This specification covers hydraulic fluid resistant Butadiene-Acrylonitrile (NBR) rubber used to produce seals, gaskets and other molded products.
This material is used typically for contact with synthetic hydraulic fluids conforming to MIL-PRF-83282, MIL-PRF-46170 and MIL-PRF-87257, but usage is not limited to such applications. Each application should be considered separately. This material has a service temperature range of -65 to +275ï°F (-54 to +135ï°C).
1.3 Safety - Hazardous Materials:
While the materials, methods, applications and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the hazards involved in such use. It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved.
Rationale: This specification was developed as a replacement specification for materials previously purchased to MIL-P-83461 and to AMS-P-83461. Requirements have been revised to add long term compression set and compatibility with synthetic hydraulic fluids and to delete compatibility with engine oil.
